I don’t even know if any of our posters live in Napa Valley – but NV is sure getting a pissload of rain and flooding today. 16" in Yountville during the course of this last weekend’s storms! At this rate, all those chardonnay vines will end up in the San Francisco Bay.
I am okay. The river (Russian River) got to about a foot from the road yesterday, but it has gone down considerably today. It was raining this morning, but it didn’t last long and the sun is shining now and there is lots of blue sky. It sure is nice. I am in Sonoma County though. It might be different in Napa, but it is usually about the same as here.
I was in Redwood City on saturday picking up a new ride and man, let me tell ya, it was nasty! Nothing but sideways rain and tree branchs.
I had to drive over Donner either that night or Sunday morning. Got as far as Auburn and the wife said “STOP!”. We took off the next morning and got home to the eastern slope of the sierra with little trouble, but didn’t like what we found when we got to the “ranch”. A little wind damage and flooding, and aluminum cans all over god’s creation! Started raining/snowing that night with little stopping since.
Hooray!! (did I mention that I have seasons passes to Heavenly?)
Friday night, we were standing on our back wooden steps / fire escape thing looking at all the trees bend, when a HUGE gust of wind whipped up and broke in half some really old TV antenna off the roof of our house that had been there since we moved in ten years ago, but the top half was still attached by some tape. I was expecting it to fall off the roof, still attached, and slam into our kitchen window. Or, if it broke off all the way, it could have dragged across the roof and crashed into the street / onto a car / onto someone’s head, so I had to get a ladder, place it precariously against the tiny space of wall between the back stairwell and the roof, and climb up there to go get it. Climbing up a wet, rickety ladder with a laughable excuse for a safety rope in the pouring rain and gale force wind = not fun.
