Are all top women's fashion designers gay or bisexual?

A female acquaintance and I differ on this topic. We were having a discussion about stereotyping and she said there are times where stereotypes are true and claimed there is not one top fashion designer that mainly designs clothing for women who is not gay or bisexual. I responded this was surely not the case but had no ammo to back up my response. She is a lot more fashion world savvy than I am so had no way to call her on this observation.

She is convinced she has won the day with her assertion. I need some fashion savvy dopers to tell me some top rank, straight as an arrow fashion designers who design clothing mainly for women.

In re-reading the OP I see I should be more specific

“not one top male fashion designer”

Well, let’s name names, I’ll work just from the top of my head, who are out.

Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Giorgio Armani, Jean Paul Gaulthier, Todd Oldham, Dolce & Gabbana (both) John Galliano, Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfilger, Gianfranco Ferre, Karl Lagerfeld, Helmut Lang, Christian LaCroix and Thierry Mugler are all either out of their own volition or by doing nothing to disabuse anyone of the notion.

There is a mixed bag of opinion on Isaac Mizrahi (who portrays himself rather fey, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything) and Calvin Klein, who is well-rumored to enjoy “the company of men” but who has also been married twice.

And then, there are all of the late and greats: Bill Blass, Gianni Versace, Christian Dior, Gucci, Halston, Willi Smith, Yves St. Laurent. I don’t know how “out” most were, but Versace and Smith were certainly open about their sexuality and, unfortunately, died tragically rather as a result.

I really can’t think of one “top” name male designer who isn’t. Is there anyone who is wretchedly famous who I couldn’t think of?

Oh, I just thought of Badgley and Mischka, but I have no clue where they stand on the great continuum.

What about The House of Worth?

Isn’t Ralph Lauren straight?
