Are all you NE Dopers ready for the weather?

Meh. Six inches or so of wet snow. Not even worth shoveling at this point. That’s what all-wheel drive is for.

Yeah, it looks like we actually got what they predicted around here. I guess they had to be right sometime, huh?

It’s weird, because I didn’t start getting any snow until sometime after midnight last night (I know this because I went to bed at midnight and still no snow.) This morning there was maybe 5 inches of snow on my car, and it’s starting to come down now more than before, so probably another 6 or 7 inches by the time I leave work, and then maybe another 6 inches overnight. So that’s what…17 inches overall? Yeah, we get a lot of snow up in the mountains, but I do find it odd that when I lok at the weather predictions, Albany and the surronding area is in the 1-3" range. Of course, I’m only in the 3-6" range, so that shows how good weather.com is.

Still not as bad as the snowstorm that happened two years ago at the beginning of January. I got stuck in Troy, NY when three feet of snow buried my car.

Okay Anaamika. I’ll give you and taxi78cab your due and admit that my prediction was way out. I’ve gotten so used to the meteorologists around here doing their doom-and-gloom routine (and then just getting a couple of flakes) that I just don’t trust them any more.

It didn’t turn out to be as weak as I expected, but it still wasn’t a barnburner. The thundersnow we were promised never materialized either. It’s all so disappointing.

Remember that blizzard we got for Christmas a couple of years ago? Now that was a snowstorm.

You’re never really ready for the snowstorm that hits you in Massachusetts. But you just take it as it comes.

This onme was supposed to hit about 4 yesterday. It didn’t start until about 10, but it hit the ground running, dumping an inch in no time. Pepper Mill and I shoveled us out this morning. It’s hard to tell how much we got, because it wasn’t level anywhere, and it seemed to be mixed with rain that kept bring the level down. Where it was about level, it was on the order of 8"-12".

The schools here are closed today. PepperMill, who got stuck home all last week with our daughter, and had been hoping for a respite with the return of school, was not looking forward to today.

I had to work that year, the day after Christmas. I remember digging myself out.

I remember that–early 1996, I actually lost my Hyundai Excel in the snow.

Pfft! Anyone in Central PA remember the March blizzard we got in 1993? Now THAT was a storm…

:stuck_out_tongue: Never did go down to 65 today. About 68 right now, expected low-70s by Saturday.

Yes, I remember that, too. I was learning how to drive on my learner’s permit. :smack:

(This post totally smacks of the old-timer’s thing, “This was nothin’ The blizzard of '82, now that were somethin’!” )*

*Note: that was a joke. Apparently my jokes have not been coming across well lately.

I love snow. I freaking love it. I love hiking in it and skiing on it. I’m going to Wah-Wachusett tonight for some night skiing, and the more I can do the better. Hell yeah, bring it on, baby! Keeps the flatlanders out, separates the Men from the Boys, etc. Nothing makes me happier than when a three-foot blizzard knocks civilization upside th’ haid and all the little people do their best Chicken Little Dance. Come April Fools Day Blizzard of '05!! Dump four feet on the Prezzies and I’ll build a snow cave and sleep in it. Snow Gods, I pray to thee!

We got about 13" here in the lovely bucolic Hudson Valley. My running joke is that you can always tell when a snowstorm has come because every single child in the Cartooniverse Consolidated School District had French Toast the following morning before school.

Why? Because when they predict even a few inches, people go into Hyper Donner Party Squirreling Away Mode. You cannot find a loaf of bread, an egg or a gallon of milk. I love it. We’re not talking the backwoods, we’re talking a few miles from the freakin’ New York Thruway. People go bonkers.

Roads were flawless today, when I got plowed out at about noon I was able to get around just fine.

And my kids are NOT gettting French Toast for breakfast tomorrow before school.

Cartooniverse

False alarm! I’m going skiing tomorrow night!!

We’re getting a lot of snow here too, got a fair bit last night and it’s still snowing. Mind you, when I’m saying a lot of snow, I mean a lot of snow for what we’re used to. Our country, and especially Amsterdam, is covered in a bit of snow for a few days per winter only, and usually a thin layer at that. While for you guys it’s probably nothing, for us, and certianly for Amsterdam, this is actually quite a lot of snow:

YAY!

The second day off of from school for the kids!
Wooooooooooooooooooooo!

Actually, I just read that we got the most snow in 50 years today.

Given the hysteria, I figured on taking about two hours playing back-and-fill with the snowblower to clear my driveway. In reality it only took about half an hour.

What a sorry, weak, no-guts-having, candy-assed excuse of a snowstorm.
