You know what’s really perverse and disgusting? All these women squeezing babies through their looks around, whispersunmentionable areas. The only reason to do *that *is for sexual kicks. Won’t someone think of these poor molested children?
Put me down in the “nothing less sexy than a pelvic exam” column. And from the other perspective, I agree, looking at bajingo maladies all day probably makes it challenging to get excited about your own sex life, never mind being lasciviously interested in all the crotches you treat at work.
I think they’re projecting. Like that guy a while back who assumed that if homosexuality was acceptable women would lose all their men to the gays.
tdn beat me to a proctology joke.
As ridiculous as this guy is, I don’t see why the fundies wouldn’t go after regular reproductive health care for women, if they ever succeeded in banning abortion, Plan B, hormonal contraception and IUDs. In fact, it seems Canadian doctors can already refuse to perform pap smears under the ‘conscience clause.’
Well now, here’s a quandary. As a male, should I be seeking a male or female proctologist? A female finger up my ass might count as adultery, but a male one might make me catch the gay.
My high school once brought our countries’ most famous shrink for a chat with the students, a Dr. Phil of sorts, who had a radio show for decades.
During the question and answer time somebody asked him what it took to become a psychiatrist, he answered (among other things) that it was a lot more difficult for a psychiatrist to stop seeing his female (or male patients, as they case might be) as sexual beings. He explained that ob-gyns quickly understood that they treated body parts, the inside of a vagina wasn’t more exciting for the ob-gyn that the inside of the mouth for a dentist. A dentist doesn’t fantasize about oral sex while pulling out molars.
He said he’d never heard of an ob-gyn that had an affair with a patient, for a shrink it’s not unheard of. The shrink can peek into people’s thoughts, desires, sexuality, fears. For some it was too dangerous a path to take.
Of course, if you are a fundamentalist loony, you probably wouldn’t let your wife see a shrink either.
BTW, my obstetrician’s explanation for becoming one: “Most of my patients are not sick”.
Erm… any doctor who doesn’t understand that pap smears are necessary even for women who aren’t sexually active should have their medical license revoked. And be sterilized.
Holy shit, they probably would have refused to tie my tubes when I was in my early 20s because it was my duty to risk certain death to reproduce, and they would have refused to do my hysterectomy this time because they could have simply removed the 8 cm mystery tumor on my left ovary, with the ovary because I still would have one to produce eggs to get pregnant with … and not to mind the hemmoraging, it would probably stop when i got pregnant…
For a little more perspective, I’m a 22-year-old male, straight, student who shadowed a gynecologist as she did pelvic exams, and it was anything but “sexy.”
He’s not a perv! He heroically threw himself on the sin grenade to save everyone else! It’s clearly his moral duty to discuss any and all aspects of sex and female body parts with women ( in detail, with pictures ) in order to save the less morally pure from having to do so. It’s just part of the burden he has to bear.
About doctors refusing to perform certain medical acts: surely those are rare, and other doctors are available to provide those services.
When I’ve heard about the conscience clause it was related to abortion and particularly late abortions.
I have never been refused, or known anyone who’s been refused, or anyone’s daughter who’s been refused pap smears, or birth control, or abortions. To imply that people are refused pap smears in Canada-- as appears from the outrage following that post is simply wrong.
You might want to consider that not every girl going into a GYN’s office is a Victoria’s Secrect model. Not even close.
They do it for the same reason some doctors go into proctology; more money than a GP. (or so I’ve been told.)
Also, last time I checked; doctors don’t exactly have a hard time get’n dates. So your paranoid theory that doctors need to trick women in order to see their vaginas is just pure stupidity.
