I just scared the cat.
In a good way, I hope, I mean, that could mean a lot of things in a thread like this.
It was a rather loud HA!
Pastor Anderson and the Taliban have a lot in common.
Hell, for several years midwives couldn’t get insured for home births AT ALL because of lawsuits and skittish insurance companies. I just read a memoir of one midwife who lost her ability to practice legally outside a hospital because of a baby born with serious defects which were not at all her fault. The insurance company urged her to settle and then they refused to renew her coverage.
I find it ignorant so many comments assume that doctors are superhuman creatures. Just because they are over-educated with several more years of schooling than most of the population, does not make them almighty Gods. Just because they play the “Saint Card” and put on a mask that since they are superior to us mere human beings, they can prance around in their white coats, and hang their fancy diplomas on their walls, and they could never possibly find anything sexual about inserting their fingers into a man or woman’s genital organs.
If any other man or woman wanted an occupation where they could “just make sure vaginas are okay”, people would believe they are perverted. But because it is part of our accepted ritual as part of modern medicine, people sure are in denial to believe that a man or woman who deliberately selects a field where they manipulate and penetrative women who are in a humiliating and undoubtedly sexual position could ever have any other subconscious or conscious reasons for that related to human sexuality.
I think modern Western medicine is then like a religion. And I think that explains some of the ignorance on these Blogs.
There are so many sources one could read to see that gynecology is indeed a very seeded field that is more about controlling and dominating women and their reproductive rights. And I believe that is why most OBGYNS were drawn to the field, because they could be entitled a misogynistic position of degrading women in sexual ways for an actual “respectable living” (at least in mainstream thinking in modern Western medicine today).
I am glad some people are un-brainwashing themselves from this religious thinking:

Quote from gynecologist John M. Smith’s book (He advocated that after observing behavior of his male colleagues for 15 years and doing some self-introspection that “men have no place as gynecologists”) “Women and Doctors” [A male physician was told by the male OB/GYN resident in charge, “During your first 70 pelvic exams, the only anatomy you’ll feel is your own.”]
My OB/GYN was not only male, he and his wife are family friends, and during the birth of at least two of my kids, he and my husband were discussing when they could go fishing again. Awkward, but not in the least sexual!
I felt more like a car brought in for an oil change.
Mainly because I find male gynecologists to be far superior to female ones. I’ve never been to a female gyno that I didn’t have any issue with. It’s like since they have the same parts, anything they don’t personally experience can’t possibly be experienced by their patients. I find males to be much more open about the fact all women are different and just because they’ve never heard of X issue doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
I also find male doctors more gentle than female.
Speaking as a middle-aged guy who about a year ago had a painful hemorrhoid excised by a youngish female doctor, there may be one thing less sexy than a pelvic exam.
Just want to point out that this is a zombie thread from Sept 2009, and StellaJohnson seems to be one of those Guests who stumbled upon the board and bumped a thread in a quest to educate us on whatever their particular doctrine may be.
But, the discussion is still relevant so carry on.
I always think of Van Halen’s, “Hot for Teacher” video when this topic comes up…maybe the Projectionist did too…and made dramatic leaps in logic in the last 28 years to get to this point in his rationale.
Five bucks says Stella doesn’t come back. We need some sort of crazy filter for first posts, if first post is to a zombie thread and is this |___| much crazy it gets rejected.
So is your pussy okay?
On an unrelated note, is it sinful for me to go to a lady doctor and have her feel my balls?
So the gyno is having a look around and says, “I going to have to numb you…”
“NUM! NUM! NUM! NUM! NUM! …”
I did a lot of pelvic exams in med school and internship. (Unfortunately, being female, both patients and schedulers often wrongly thought that I would have some knack for it even though it was one of my least favorite things to do and I wasn’t particularly good at it).
Keep in mind that quite often pelvic exams are being done because something is WRONG with the vagina in question. We’re talking yeast, green frothy discharge, fishy odors, copious amounts of blood… Oh, and even if there’s nothing wrong, you’ll also have the patients who just don’t have good hygiene.
Honestly, if I were a guy, I would expect being a gynecologist to do more harm than good to my sex life.
I’ve got issues with men, and issues with personal space, and issues with doctors… so I go with women GYNs, and as rarely as possible.
However, I don’t see anything wrong with a guy being a GYN, especially if they’re really in it for the baby-catching as an OBGYN.
I do sometimes wonder about the motivation to go into that specific practice.
Desire to help women specifically, rather than people in general?
Curiosity about medical issues with bits that you don’t personally have?
Opinions that you’ll do better/be more objective when dealing with bits you don’t have?
Seen as a cushy job with lots of opportunity to hit the golf course?
I do wonder.
I also wonder if there’s any stigma to women who go into male reproductive health… I mean really? Do people crack jokes about lady doctors doing prostate exams? I don’t know.
A long time ago, when I was but a humble English teacher, I got one of my coworkers - an educated Chinese woman who also taught English - stinking drunk, and we talked about this and that.
One thing she mentioned, as one of her many gripes about life in 21st century China, was that all the gynecologists are women. When she lived in Anhui, all her reproductive-health needs were met by a male doctor, who, when approaching a problem, consulted two pools of reference - ‘what does it say in the textbooks’ and ‘what have I seen in other patients?’ Apparently, according to her, the female gynodoc cannot help but include a third reference frame - ‘what have I experienced in my own health that is similar to this’ - that is, apparently, next-to-worthless for its miniscule sample size, and badly dilutes the other two.
Apparently, educating lots of new obstetricians (they’re obstetricians who also do gyno, apparently, rather than dedicated gynecologists) was part of a five-year plan a couple years ago, and resulted in a large glut of young doctors who are semi-competent midwives but shitty gynecologists.
And that’s what I have to add to this.
Re: coworker, a whole group of us went to a bar together, and I just happened to sit next to her for a bit. thankfully, penis did not ensue.
Obviously, I’ve never had one myself, but my understanding is that pelvic examinations are an uncomfortable and embarrassing ordeal that, God willing, you won’t have to endure more than once a year.
I suspect I know why the women in this pastor’s life have confused that with sex.
Hehe, there are one or two of those billboards up around here, too. Previously, I never questioned male or female gynos…had both, doesn’t matter. More comfortable with female, sure, but in the end it all sucks, so it doesn’t really matter. ![]()
But these guys…holy shit, yeah. They look CREEPY. I am now actively looking for a female gyno, though I don’t expect much luck around here.
Sounds like it’s time for a new thread…with pole!!
