Are most SDMBers my enemies? Should I never post again?

Because that’s the impression I’ve been getting. From the ATMB board, GQ, and elsewhere.

At times, I have some valid questions to which I’d like answers. I can also periodically put in my 2 cent responses here & there when I can manage it.

However, if it’s at the expense of knowing that I’m up against a brick wall of unwarranted hostility, maybe I should just dispense with my curiosity, and say, heck it’s just not worth dealing with Sodomites who keep twisting things and making cruelly rash assumptions.

So, where do I stand with most SDMBers, I wonder? Do people who don’t fit the standard mode get dispensed with BY THE MAJORITY? or just by the minority?

So let the poll begin. I can take it, because that’s bettern than not knowing where I stand.

jally, it’s not that people are your enemies, it’s just that you’re doing a lot of things that are just bad form, and tick people off.
For instance, this should be in MPSIMS. I believe Manny will probably move it there soon, but I may as well tell you that Mods don’t generally like repeated postings on the wrong boards. Of course if this is a poll, then you should definitely have it in the IMHO board. Read the board summaries before each board link. I don’t know if you’re dong anything else to make people mad, but as far as this goes, you could easily remedy it by posting to the right boards. Also, if you want to say something to a Mod, it’s generally better to e-mail them than starting a new thread.

This will be moved right quick. The fact it will have to be is the reason people (such as myself) currently do not enjoy your actions. You, jally, fail to use this system the way it was designed. You need repeated explanations and even then you accuse people (especially poor manhattan) of being biased against you. You even have the gall to use verbal abuse in an othwerwise civil thread. Jally, you may be the nicest person on Earth. But if you only show us willfull ignorance and bile, you shall get as you give. We have been nice to you. Now it’s your turn.

I’ve gotten on your case once before, jally, in a thread that was so incoherent that I’m still not sure what you were asking, though it seemed in part to be an attack on the boards. Wait, let me find a link… OK, here.

Having said that, I’d say your main problem is that you seem to have a rather, well, unique view of the purpose of this board. For instance, in this thread, you suggested that they open an entirely new forum devoted to your hobby of redesigning everyday objects, thinking, apparently, that people who would be interested in your designs frequent these boards. You then attacked everyone who pointed out that, except for youself, there is no interest in this type of topic.

If you ask me, your interests just don’t coincide with those of the vast majority of people here. The attacks and seemingly coded posts don’t help much either. FWIW, I’ve never thought you were a troll, which has been proposed once or twice. My suggestion: continue posting here if you have interests that are shared by others, but take your redesigning hobby elsewhere.

Jally, Jally, Jally… Nobody here is your enemy, okay? Some of us are pretty ticked off with you at the moment, sure, but that doesn’t mean we’re all sitting around the kitchen sticking pins into Jally voodoo dolls. So relax.

I for one would be sorry to see you go. You have some interesting ideas, and a very different slant on things which I enjoy hearing.

However, babe, you do need to work on your inter-personal relations skills just a teensy bit. [constructive criticism follows]

Rule One of the SDMB is, “Don’t be a jerk.” Jerks are the ones who call other posters “bitch” in ATMB and “sodomites” in GQ. Jerks are the ones who pick fights with moderators in an open forum instead of communicating via private e-mail.

Now, I’m NOT going to call you a jerk for posting threads in the wrong forums, or for other technical mistakes, because (a) that’s not a criterion for jerkdom and (b) I really don’t think you’re a jerk. I’m putting that in italics so as to hopefully get the point across. I think you’re just somebody who’s having trouble finding a niche at the SDMB, having trouble finding his feet. You wouldn’t be the first person to have this happen to.

My advice–chill for a few days, take a short vacation away from the boards, spend some time thinking about what you want from the Straight Dope Message Board, then come back, say, Monday morning, and start over. Maybe try to focus some more on what other people want to talk about, instead of just your own threads.

Actually, so far you are doing pretty good in one respect–the one thing we absolutely can’t stand is being bored, and you are so totally not boring. :wink:

But please don’t take that as blanket permission to be a permanent gadfly–we’d much rather have you be a civilized non-boring poster, than someone who needs to be swatted.
