Both, I think. You’ve got those red genes in you somewhere. So… but also, as a kid you are teased. A lot.
And that teaches you to take up for yourself, or just be aloof and not care. So by the time you get close to adulthood, if someone messes with you, they need to watch out.

In polls, I’ve read that women with red hair believe that they would be completely different people if they had blonde or brown hair. I believe this is so.
