Not available on the front page for me, I can see questions from the secession of the Confederacy up to waiting 30 minutes after eating to swim, but nothing on guns in space.
Are these comments on older articles? It sometimes seems that comments are made about articles a day or two before I can see them on the front page. Are they on the Chicago Reader website or the like?
That particular column was from January, so like most of us, you probably forgot about it.
And it is a Staff Report, which, as you correctly observe, appears on the main page a few days after Cecil’s new column on Friday.
But as Tapioca Dextrin pointed out, if you subscribe to the newsletter, you get it on Friday, including a link to the new Staff Report.
But this week there’s a problem with the newsletter and it didn’t get sent out.
Yes, the advance newsletter goes out on Friday morning and lists the upcoming column, the upcoming Staff Report (if one is running that week, it varies), and a Classic Column that will run during the week as well.
Our friends at Joke-A-Day, the company that sends the mailing for us, they’re having some monumental server problems and they’re not available this week for the mailing, it happens like that sometimes.
Another of the problems with the server is that people are not able to subscribe to the mailing list or change an existing registration to the mailing; all of the usual portals to subscriber access are blocked. When the server gets back up again I can subscribe people manually, change their current email addresses, etc. So please send me an email: TubaDiva@aol.com. I’ll be happy to get you started on the Straight Dope weekly mailing as soon as possible.
