Seems this Board has been running extra-slow these past couple of weeks, especially the search engine.
We have had some problems intermittently. Not sure what is going on. Hope it resolves soon.
Lemme ask – is it slow for you all the time or at certain times or sporadically?
Did it start all of a sudden or gradually over time? Has it gotten markedly worse? Did it iimprove at all? Is it still happening today?
How are you getting to the Dope? What kind of a device, operating system, browser? How are you connecting – broadband, wifi, whatever?
Looking for patterns and symptoms here.
Sorry this is happening to you.
Well, I’ve had problems too so I’ll answer the questions and hope it offers some data points.
I’ve noticed slow response from the board for several weeks now. It seemed to improve after the recent downtime, but is now getting worse again. The problem is intermittent - sometimes all works just fine. It is still happening today.
I access the Dope via a desktop PC running Win 7, browser is the latest Firefox. Connection is via a modestly fast cable internet service and I am in the UK.
Sporadically.
Just started noticing it a couple of weeks ago. It happened today, but then, later the same day, I ran a search and results popped up just like that.
HP desktop PC with Windows 7; Internet Explorer browser; Brighthouse and that’s all I know.
I have been having intermittent problems for several weeks now with pages not loading. If I stop the load and then re-click the page (or forum) link, it will sometimes load immediately. It seemed to be better after the recent shutdown, but has been recurring more frequently in the last few days. I’m running a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.3, and Safari 6.0.4 on a cable modem routed wirelessly through AirPort.
I’ve noticed problems loading pages on both my MacBook Pro (Safari) and my iPhone (Tapatalk). With Safari, I’m sporadically getting a message that “the server has dropped the connection, which may happen when traffic is heavy” (my paraphrase). With Tapatalk, it tries to load for a long time, and then sometimes gives me a blank screen. Both are intermittant issues.
Ditto the other posters.
I’ve noticed problems loading pages too. Sporadic. Don’t know if it’s related to the Read/Unread-settings problem. I’m on a desktop PC using Firefox.
Same as the others. Often have to click a second time to get things to change. For weeks now.
Win7Pro
Lenovo ThinkPad
Roadrunner cable
Firefox w/ Ad Block (even though I’m a SDMB subscriber)
MSE security
I’ll add that Searches seem especially slow.
I’ve noticed that I’ve been getting into the routine of clicking a new thread or forum, and giving it a few seconds if it doesn’t load immediately, then stopping, then trying the link again (or just refreshing the current page). Sometimes I do this several times. I’m not sure if it’s actually doing anything by stopping, reloading, reclicking links, or whatever… but yeah it’s sporadic and unpredictable. Not a huge major inconvenience most of the time. It also happens when I go to quote a post or do an advance reply. Seems to happen pretty much anywhere… loading a sub-forum, loading a thread, loading an advance reply or quote, etc.
I see this also. But in my case it’s hard to tell if SDMB is the problem, as I have problems loading pages from lots of sites, and I suspect my ISP. Often, pages half load (images especially) then stall for a long time.
But with SDMB, I have the same sort of troubles as others are describing above – pages that don’t even begin to load for a long time, or until I retry them.
Why would this keep popping up again, even after the admins’ every (seemingly successful) attempt to solve the problem? I think the hamsters have developed a deleterious mutant recessive gene that has gotten spread around their in-bred colony. It’s hard to get rid of that (just ask the European royal families), and it keeps popping up again and again.
The hamsters need to be replaced. I am getting tired of how the staff acts as if the hamsters are so delicate. The hamsters need to man and toughen the fuck up.
Somebody needs to break it to da kid that “hamsters” aren’t for real in this sense. Tooth Fairy, Santa, and Honest Politicians need covered as well.
You think I am that naive?
While at it, maybe someone could cover “humor” and “sarcasm” as well as “good natured ribbing”.
THE HAMSTERS AREN’T REAL!?
(runs away sobbing)
Sparodic slowness here. Sometimes causes tapatalk to time out if I am trying to browse from my phone. Definitely just this board, other sites are fine. Still not as bad as the bad old days a few years back, but trending that way.
