Are the website logos in "Favorites" supposed to disappear?

Often when I add a major website to my Favorites in Internet Explorer, I get a little logo to the left of the website on the pull-down menu (eBay, Yahoo!, Google, Drudge Report, etc.) I started noticing that they tend to disappear after awhile, replaced by a generic IE logo.

Is this normal? If not, what’s causing the logos to disappear? Is there a way to make the little logos stay?

Usually, that is caused by a 'cookie"- did you- or a Spyware blocker- remove any?

Download the free FavOrg utility:

It works with IE 6.0 as well.

It’s probably because of my emptying the temporary settings folder and restarting my computer after it froze earlier today, not any spyware issues.

Another one of life’s little mysteries cleared up. Thanks.

I haven’t heard that. How are the Favorites Icons linked to cookies?

Judging from Fear Itself’s quote, I suspect IE just places those logos in its cache like any other file, and when they expire from the cache, the logo disappears.

Exactly right. Cookies have zero to do with it. the favorite icon is just a file in the cache, and when it ages off or is deleted, it’s gone.

The favorg utility mentioned, and the dozens of others like it, simply copy the icon files from the cache to another folder under the utility’s control, and update the favorites shortcuts to point to the copy in the new folder.

Or you could switch to Firefox which keeps them automatically. Also, it’s way more betterer.

Mine doesn’t. I have cleaned my temp files ( cookies and such ) for Firefox and I now have generic symbols…
