Are there any Bare Nakes Ladies Fans out there?

I’ve been a fan for a long time. I like the new single out “Pinch me” My favorite line is “I can hide out under there” followed by “I just made you say underwear” HA HA

Is any one else amused by this or other BNL songs?

I’ve been a fan since their first album, “Gordon”, was released in 1992. “If I had a Million $” was the big song at the time if you went to any Canadian club (I loved living in Northern NY for that reason). But my favorite songs from that particular album are “Grade 9”, “Box Set” (they performed this song at the Juno Awards in 1993, dressed up as clowns), “Enid”, “Brian Wilson”, and “What a Good Boy”.

Stunt is also one of my favorite albums. And I love the new song (especially the line you quoted) and can’t wait for the new album! I don’t even know if it’s out yet.

If you’ve ever seen them live, you know they put on a fantastic show! They have so much energy. Great live band.

BNL … another hard working Canadian band that has been around for years and is finally getting some recognition in the states ( = $$).

Good for them! … I have been listening to them since 1991 when they came out with their indie tape … I am glad they are getting some pop success in the states so that they can finally make some hard earned money.

I love bare naked ladies. Someone had to say it.

“Be My Yoko Ono” is one of my favs.

Oh, honey, you are soooooooooo asking for it with that thread title. I just had to give you some warning. It may get ugly.

I’m a fan of the band, too.

I like them, and I went to a live show last summer, but I’m sorry I missed their up-and-coming days. I hope they have all the success and reward that they can enjoy, but there’s nothing like seeing a great band in a small club. I’ve heard stories of the early days, when the air would be thick with macaroni, and the powered cheese would lend a golden halo to the footlights.

I just put “Be My Yoko Ono” on a mix tape right after “Be My Yoko” by The Bobs. Is the world running out of ideas?

What’s that CD called? Is it still available?? I’d love to find it.

Thanks.

I believe if you were to contact their label: Warner Canada, you’d get the info you need…about the their first 4 song CD.

“Jane” is my favorite…What a Good Boy is great, Pinch me, Call and Answer, One Week, It’s All Been Done…and of course the Bruce Cockburn cover of “Lovers In A Dangerous Time”
A friend of mine was a temp roadie for BNL…he got canned for eating their food…what a putz.

Oh, it’s a rock group. Nevermind…

Sili

I remember seeing them with 5 lbs of macaroni in my pockets. Even though they were frisking at the door, food items were encouraged. I’ve seen them 5 times & always manage to bring mac, packetts of “fancy ketchup”, & Motts apple sauce (although at the moment I can’t remember why the motts ??? ).

“Jane” is my favorite BNL song.

& you can tell an early fan by which cover is on their Gordon CD.

They have a new single out?? WHERE IS IT???

I love BNL, but being in a, ahem, rather rural area, I have to make an effort to find their music. My location is also the reason I’ve never been able to see them in concert, which I still hope to do even if it involves a road trip.

I love all their stuff, but especially “Jane” and “Call and Answer.” And I think they’re hilarious: “Like Kurasawa I make mad films; 'kay, I don’t make films; but if I did they’d have a samurai.”

BTW, maybe you guys can help out an ignorant American. There’s a line in “Jane” that goes “Her promises as vague as heaven/No Julianna next to my Evan.” ??? Who are Julianna and Evan? Is this a reference to a movie or TV show? If so, which one?

Never saw it on CD … they sold the tape (a fairly plain white tape) off of the stage after shows! (which was awesome!)

Jodi: It’s not that you’re an American, it’s that you don’t have any indie cred!

That’s got to be a reference to Juliana Hatfield and Evan Dando. Juliana is the former bass player/singer for the Blake Babies and a semi-successful solo artist; Evan Dando is the founder/singer/songwriter from the Lemonheads. They dated for a while, and played and sang on each other’s early albums. I just love the Boston music scene!

As far as BNL goes, I haven’t been a fan in the past, but “One Week” and “It’s All Been Done” were undoubtedly two of the catchiest, most well-written songs of the last year. (The first time I heard “It’s All Been Done,” I sat around for hours picking it out on the guitar from memory.) Sooner or later I’ll buy one of their albums.

Welcome to the Bryant Street Theater.

Jane is also one of my favorites, along with Call and Answer and If I had a Million dollars. My hubby said that One week is a good example of white boys rapping. I’m not sure if he was making a joke or not.

Well, I haven’t hear enough by them to be considered a fan, but what I have heard I do like. It’s also a great name.

I love Gordon. I haven’t been a big fan of their more recent stuff, but I still love nearly every single song on Gordon.

Just like Brian Wilson still goes through my head for days on end.

Yo Phil - If you wanna try before you buy, lemme know…you can borrow one of my CDs.

And I love this band! Got Gordon while I was still in college after a friend’s band covered “If I Had $1000000.” My other favorite songs are “One Week,” “Shoe Box,” “Blame It On Me,” “New Kid (On the Block)” and “Grade 9.” I especially love who they work in the guitar riffs for Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” and “Spirit of Radio” in the last one…

I am a big, big fan, since a little while prior Gordon. And yeah, the new Gordon album cover is no where near as great, and funny, as the old one. I don’t know why they changed it.

I’ll try and answer some questions posed here. Okay, the tape that came out before Gordon is generally known as The Yellow Tap. It has 5 songs on it, and all of them are on Gordon, except for Fight The Power. I don’t think it’s on Warner, as it was an indie release, unless they bought the rights. It’s the only indie release to ever reach a platinum status in Canada. There were a couple before it, but unless you can get someone to make you a copy, you’ll be hard-pressed to find them. The Pink Tape was the precursor to The Yellow Tape, and has three songs that are on Gordon and two that aren’t on any of their albums that you can now get.
The other two, however, are on Buck Naked. It’s nearly impossible to find this one. It’s just Steve and Ed playing guitar, and a few other instruments at times. They have said that somewhere between 150 and 600 copies were made. Maybe 5 of the 15 songs on Buck Naked have appeared on other albums. It includes a cover of the Road Runner theme song.

The new single, Pinch Me, is available on the At Any Cost soundtrack. I’ve seen the video quite a bit up here in Canada on Much Music and Much More Music. I’ve heard it plays on VH-1 too. I like it, it’s got a great feel to it, and I really like the song too.

Oh, and my favourite song of theirs has got to be When I Fall, from Born on a Pirate Ship. It’s such a beautiful song, it really gets me. Besides that, I love them all.

I absolutely love Bare Naked Ladies.

The band’s alright too I suppose. I don’t mind them.
