I’ve seen the basic AP/UPI reports that mention he announced he was seperating from his wife Marta. However, none of the reports offer any explanation. Are there stories that allege infidelity ect? I would imagine that he married with an iron clad pre-nuptial so it would probably take a really big reason for his wife (who comes from relatively modest means I think) to leave the guy (probably more than drug abuse).
Every reputable source I see online calls it a “mutual decision” and doesn’t give any additional explanation. Were I to speculate I would guess that the strain of living with addiction and an ongoing police investigation wuld be enough to crack a lot of marriages.
Personally were I he I’d refuse the divorce until after the drug probe is done. Wouldn’t want to give up that spousal privilege…
You raise a fascinating point. Spousal privilege puts her in stong “negociation” position. Indeed, it raises the question (at least in my mind) of what constitutes blackmail. Normally, blackmail doesn’t involve exercising a right which one is legally entitled to pursue (thus, if I say that I’m going to sue you unless you pay me the $3,000 that you owe me it’s not blackmail).
I was being facetious. Rush’s privilege not to have his wife testify against him lies with him, not her. She can’t testify if he doesn’t want her to. I believe also that even in the event of a divorce any spousal communication within the time of the marriage remains privileged. But as always IANAL.

I used to like his show back in the day… he was funny, irreverent, and, though biased, did make a lot of good points. Sometime in the late 90s the charm was gone and he just wasn’t funny any more.
Speaking to the OP, however, this suprises me. He always used to make a big deal, on the air and whatnot, about Marta and what a great relationship they had, etc.
Anyway, Rush should stuff it and get his sh*t together.

Rush is an out there sort of character, puts it all on the line regularly (which is why so many people like him).
I guess sometimes theres incompadibilities when that happens.
As for any tangible reason? None that I know of.
I agree with Otto, most likely a casualty of the changes his life has gone through with the addiction and the following investigation, which I’m sure hase caused notable stress. IMHO, She probably deserves a gold medal for staying as long as she did. I can’t imagine it’s been a very pleasant situation to live through.
Like everyone else, I’ve heard nothing official. That said, it might be that his real-life persona is as obnoxious, overbearing, and vindictive as his radio personality.
At times, he’s acknowledged these on-air attributes, so I think I’m safely dealing with facts in my presentation. 
In Canada for most criminal matters, a person’s spouse can not be compelled to testify against his or her spouse, but can testify against his or her spouse if he or she wishes to.
