On the CBS show CSI: Miami, star David Caruso would deliver a one-liner while putting on his sunglasses, followed by Roger Daltrey screaming “YEAAAAHHHHH” from the Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again.
Not meant to be scientific, just an informal survey. Poll to follow if I don’t screw it up.
I voted no, but I am actually familiar with the first half of the meme, the removing sunglasses after saying something stupidly melodramatic. Also known as David Caruso’s entire acting bag of tricks.
But i was not familiar with the addition of the “yeaaah” afterwards.
My mother refers to David Caruso as “that redheaded guy who took his glasses off.” For a woman who says things like “I ran into your (classmate/coworker)* the other day” and expects me to know exactly who she’s talking about, that’s a mighty specific description.
For some inexplicable reason, David Caruso follow me on Twitter (even though I have never followed him and still don’t). I liked his first year on NYPD Blue and his slow-burn acting style worked with the character and writing, though as the OP mentions, it has collapsed into parody now from cliche and abuse. Personally, I like his brazen live-wire acting more, from Crime Story or King of New York or Proof of Life. He seems so much more engaged and vibrant in that kind of role so I’m always hoping he’ll pursue something more interesting and energetic than the stuff we mostly see now.
I voted never seen it. Today, in that other thread, was the first time I’ve encountered it. Then I went to youtube and watched a video with about twenty or so CSI Miami intros (Caruso one liner, apply shades, “YEAAAH!!!”), which I thought was actually pretty funny.
At what point were the show and the actor doing the whole thing ironically? Meaning that they recognized it was the subject of parody and they continued to do it anyhow?
Remember when Caruso was the Irish-American punk on Hill Street Blues? I must have watched umpteen episodes of ***CSI: Miami ***before I realized he and Horatio Caine were one and the same guy.
