Running closer than I expected so far.
I’m part of “no” vote and still surprised even in a self-selecting poll that this board has nearly 10% happy with Trump.

…I never said anything about “the majority of Americans.” Millions isn’t a majority. And there were plenty of things on Mortiss’s list that could be perceived as benefits. A supreme court favourable to your political ideology. Lower unemployment. The stock market. The accuracy of those statements and the degree to which it is a “benefit” is another matter entirely.
Millions of Americans believe “this stuff.” It should come as no surprise that a single poster would put it forward on these boards.
Yep. That’s how propaganda works. The administration broadcasts propaganda. People accept that propaganda as truth. And they come on messageboards to repeat that propaganda.
Its only “surprising” because most Americans (and many other people) can’t get to grips with the extent that this administration has normalised propaganda, and what effect that propaganda has had on millions of its citizens.
I understand that millions of people voted for Trump. But I still don’t understand why.
Most of these people complain about how politicians are dishonest. So they know politicians lie. How on Earth did anyone decide that Donald Trump of all people is the exception? Who would listen to Donald Trump for two minutes and think that he’s the only honest man in politics? What kind of stupidity does that take?
Hell, Trump actually bragged about how his followers were gullible - and they still believe him.
Sorry, if “Invasion by Illegals” does not cover 500 migrants storming and physically attacking a border post, just what does?
…Tim R. Mortiss listed a whole host of reasons why. What part of what he posted did you not understand?
I’m not happy he is president. But I also didn’t want Clinton to win. Libertarians are used to disappointment.
“Why are the roads so bad?”
Why do people think this will happen? The actual history of this country disproves it.
People age into their parents. Left leaning you people become scared old people. You know the saying, “A Republican is a Democrat that has been mugged”? As you get older, there’s more chances for any one person to get mugged.
People get comfortable in their lives and their possessions, and worry about their children, so they begin to fear anything that can harm either one. Sure as the sun rises, today’s millennials will become tomorrow’s Conservatives.
That Progressive ad speaks the truth.
That may have been true with baby boomers, but we’re in a different economy now, if you haven’t noticed. The longer I live, the more inequities I’m able to observe for others.
President Trump’s approval rating is around 44% across the country. Why would nearly 10% here surprise anyone?
Asked and answered: NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!
You know this board leans heavy to the left. It is not a representative makeup of America by any means. I haven’t voted Republican* in years and I am one of the more moderate members of the Dope.
What?!
from the people I’ve interacted with (both IRL and online,) he appeals to the Boomers and older Gen-Xers who look at him and think “That is what I would do if I was president.” That the solution to America’s declining influence and power is to push people around, insult them, make them be nice to him, and get rid of people who won’t play ball.
You know, the kind of people who confuse “being an asshole” with “telling it like it is.”
The fact that he believes these things. Apparently because Trump said he did them and said they were great things.
But if you don’t simply believe everything Trump says then you can go through his list of reasons and see that they either didn’t happen or shouldn’t have happened.
The first question we need to ask about Trump is whether he’s telling the truth. And I can’t see how anyone can say he is. You don’t have to listen to anyone else; just listen to Trump himself. He will say one thing today and then say something contradictory tomorrow and then say something else that contradicts them both next week. So how can anyone believe he’s telling the truth?
And if you don’t have this blind faith that Trump is telling the truth then there’s nothing. Nobody outside of Trump himself is saying the things that Trump is saying. Everyone else is saying things are not as good as Trump is claiming. That includes other elected officials (both Democrats and Republicans), government reports, the media (including Fox News), members of Trump’s own administration, and the rest of the world. To believe Donald Trump is telling the truth means you have to believe that everyone else in the world is lying.
I’m not sure how to vote.
I’m not really glad he’s POTUS. My candidate would have been much better. On the other hand, I’m glad Hillary isn’t POTUS. So I’m happy he beat Hillary, but not happy he beat Gary.
Overall, he’s done both good and bad, despite his negative personal attributes.
I’m undecided.
Well you know, it is a cabal of evil groups led by the illuminati or some such trash. Sub in international Jewish plot or the Commies for the various Trump supporters. Then there are the 1% rich that like the general trend and the really gullible. Also whatever segment of the remaining population that watches and believes Fox news. Then there are also otherwise rational people that don’t like Trump but feel the country is doing better under him, I can’t follow their logic but they can. Of course Hillary was the worst thing possible for this segment so they voted for the lesser of 2 evils in their mind.
To be fair, I voted for HRC as to me she was the lesser of 2 evils. Same reason I voted for Kerry back in 2004.
Gary?
Perhaps a hijack, but would would have been so terrible about Hillary winning? I understand having a preference for someone else, but another 4 years of a moderate liberal as POTUS wouldn’t have been a calamity.
Seconded.
