Are you proactive or reactive? And other questions...

Just so we can know each other a little better:

  1. Are you proactive or reactive?
    I am definitely reactive.

  2. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Never in bed before 11:00, even though I have to be up at 6.

  3. Are you a pessimist or an optimist?
    Big time optimist.

  4. Left or Right brained.
    I think right, but I don’t remember.

  5. Cafe Society or General Questions?
    Cafe Society for me.

Answer what you will, and please add a question of your own.

  1. Are you proactive or reactive?
Reactive for sure, I’m perfectly fine in my routine until I personally get bored of it or something makes me.

  2. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night owl, I think the clearest very late at night. Its not uncommon for me to have great epiphanies and long sessions of deep, useful thought at 4am then wake up the next morning and forget how to turn on my car.

  3. Are you a pessimist or an optimist?
I guess I’m a realistic pessimist. I tend to overanalyze situations and see all the possible bleak outcomes ahead of time.

  4. Left or Right brained.
Left brained, although I’ve got a creative streak in terms of design/writing. Nothing spectacular but its there.

  5. Cafe Society or General Questions?
General Questions. I love reading but I’m generally apathetic towards art/most music/movies. Seen one movie in the last year, Elf.

And for the new question,

  1. Describe your bad side.

I don’t suppose I’m a very sympathetic or emotional person. I literally haven’t cried since I was maybe 10. I have no problems reading or seeing pictures of horrible disasters. I obviously think they are horrible tragedies but they just don’t tickle any emotional response from me. I’m more likely to analyze how one would avoid such a thing in the future, for example.

Doesn’t help when someone comes to you looking for a sympathetic soldier and you can’t sympathize with how they are feeling.

  1. Are you proactive or reactive? Reactive, but not reactionary.

  2. Are you a morning person or a night owl? I don’t go to bed until 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning if I have to, so a night owl.

  3. Are you a pessimist or an optimist? Pessismist. Vivalostwages even bought me a mug for my birthday that has a line marked on it when it’s half empty.

  4. Left or Right brained. I’m not artistic. So whichever side the more practical lobe is on.

  5. Cafe Society or General Questions? Cafe Society. I love GQ too though.

  6. Describe your bad side. I’m lazy and generally have no common sense. I’m not quite an absent minded professor but if I had a doctorate in physics, I would be.

  7. What would be your dream occupation? I would want to be some sort of creative consultant for the Star Trek franchise. It’s literally the thing I’m most passionate about and would love to have some sort of official role with the franchise.

  1. My bad side is that I am a major procrastinator. I always put things off until the last possible moment. I too am absent minded.

  2. Dream job would be playing bass or drums in a cool alternative/punk band. (Bad Religion for example). If not that, I would take Ice Cream taste tester.

  1. Are you proactive or reactive? Less proactive, and more reactive, than I’d like to be.

  2. Are you a morning person or a night owl? I’m not a morning person, but I have to get up at 6:30am to get to work, so I’m not a night person either. I guess I’m not a person at all.

  3. Are you a pessimist or an optimist? The Germans say it best: I’m not a pessimist, I’m a realist.

  4. Left or Right brained? In brain and in politics, I lean left.

  5. Cafe Society or General Questions? Cafe Society. That’s where all the jazz threads are.

  6. Describe your bad side. I’m lazy, inattentive, and much less ambitious in practice than in theory.

  7. What would be your dream occupation? Urban planner, for a citizenry that (a) understands Europe and (b) will pay taxes if they know they’ll get something for their money.

  8. What do you regret? I regret missed opportunities for travel.

  1. Are you proactive or reactive? Work - proactive, real life - reactive :frowning:

  2. Are you a morning person or a night owl? Afternoon, err duck?

  3. Are you a pessimist or an optimist? “Pessimist” doesn’t get close.

  4. Left or Right brained? Righty-right-right.

  5. Cafe Society or General Questions? Cafe Society? Both but never GD or the BBQ pit.

  6. Describe your bad side. I have a bad side? OK probably meaner then I’d like to be (got it from Mum)

  7. What would be your dream occupation? Pretty much what I do now at 10* the money and half the hours, for a good cause, on a ship (is that qualified enough?) I was gonna say “rock musician” but I’ve seen that close up and it ain’t for me.

  8. What do you regret? Should’ve done a physics degree

  9. TOS or TNG? (Will this push the thread off the rails?) TNG.

OK, I’m in before this gets too long.

[li] Are you proactive or reactive?[/li]Definitely proactive. I dislike sitting and waiting for things to happen.

[li] Are you a morning person or a night owl?[/li]A morning person all the way. I can stay up late given the right company and the right circumstances, but if it’s after 7:00 am and I haven’t woken up yet, I’m probably sick or dead.

[li] Are you a pessimist or an optimist?[/li]An optimist, for the most part, with periods of intense pessimism.

[li] Left or Right brained?[/li]As far as I can tell, when you figure I’m a translator turned programmer, I’m pretty much balanced between both of them.

[li] Cafe Society or General Questions? Cafe Society?[/li]Cafe Society. In General Questions, someone has inevitably beaten me to the answer.

[li] Describe your bad side.[/li]Believe it or not, I do have a harsh, nasty, judgemental, intolerant side. I’m also a bit too good at holding grudges for my taste.

[li] What would be your dream occupation?[/li]Being a pure programmer making enough money for me to take time off when I want and travel when I want. I’m a good coder, and I like seeing something I’ve built run and run well, whether it’s a user interface which is so easy to use it feels intuitive or a beautiful, elegant piece of logic without a single unneccesary bit of code.

[li] What do you regret?[/li]Eleven years ago, as I think a lot of you know, I was hospitalized three times for clinical depression. The man I was engaged to at the time stood by me. As I put it, I went through hell, and he came along for the ride. I don’t regret being hospitalized – it had to be done – but I do regret what he went through for me, even though it was his choice. He told me that the first time I was hospitalized, when I was nearly catatonic, he looked into my eyes and saw no soul there. If I could undo one thing, that would be it.

[li] TOS or TNG? (Will this push the thread off the rails?) [/li]TOS, although I haven’t followed the series in years.

Now mine:
[li]What’s your dream vacation?[/li]At this point, I’d say travelling the world, seeing all the things I’ve always wanted to see and revisiting places I’ve lived and loved, including England, Hawaii and Japan. It would also include a chance to meet the people I’ve come to know so well at this message board.[/ol]

Siege Snap on number seven, but you don’t wanna be on the beach too?

Now I know you’re British. What with “Snap” and “Small Clanger”, you sound just like my Lancashire born and bred father (although he’s never dropped a “small” clanger). I was laid off for 7 months last year. One of the things I’ve learned is being unemployed is boring!

CJ

  1. Are you proactive or reactive?

Reactive. I like to hear what the grapevine says before jumping in.

  1. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Night owl. I hate mornings. I’m at my best about 11.30 at night.

  1. Are you a pessimist or an optimist?

I think there are huge chunks of life that are completely awful and it’s generally going to hell in a handbasket but the few things that I do like make up for it.

  1. Left or Right brained?

To be honest I don’t know which does which. But I’m definetely more language than math.

  1. Cafe Society or General Questions? Cafe Society?

Cafe Society. But I do love how I rarely ever have to wonder about minor mysteries anymore due to GQ.

  1. Describe your bad side.

I’m such an underachiever. I could do much more than I’m doing, but it’s just so comfortable this way.

  1. What would be your dream occupation?

Sigh. I really really don’t know. If I did I would get off my arse and try to work towards getting it. Figuring out what you really want to do can be harder than getting the actual job.

  1. What do you regret?

I was really cruel to a friend when I was about 9. A group of us all ganged up on her and bullied her for no other reason than that we could. She still remembers how miserable she was. I still feel awful. It was unforgiveable.

  1. TOS or TNG? (Will this push the thread off the rails?)

TNG. Actually, DS9, if that’s permitted.

  1. What’s your dream vacation?

There’s plenty of places I’d want to see but top of the list:

A night owl, despite the fact that I get up well before dawn every day. I make up for lack of sleep during the working week by spending weekends and holidays in a state of unconsciousness.
  3. Are you a pessimist or an optimist?
An optimist. The only thing that keeps me going is faith that it will all work out in the end.
  4. Left or Right brained?
Right, although I can harness the left on occasion.

  7. What would be your dream occupation?
    Writer.
  8. What do you regret?
I try not to have regrets, but the older I get the harder it is. Most recently it was telling someone that I was not the person they were looking for, when it becomes more and more obvious that I was, and am.
  9. TOS or TNG? (Will this push the thread off the rails?)
    No idea.
  10. What’s your dream vacation?
