Argent Towers, a moment of your time.

If this is a joke about the similarity between their names, it’s poorly timed. If not, then like Dio says - fucking learn how to read.

Good for you–nicely said.

I hope you stick around. A lot of people do stupid things on this board. Very few admit it. I enjoy your posts. I think you bring more to this board than a lot of people who are calling for your blood.

Are you leaving then?

I don’t want to get my hopes up.

Ol’ Bucky hasn’t been able to follow along with the content of the thread so far, so it wouldn’t suprise me if it was just a mistake.

I can reads well Sir “Always right in anything and everything”.

My opinion is simply that whether the contact was through a PM or a simple board post is irrelvant.

Argent foxtrot interacted with ANOTHER POSTER from the SDMB. We should be able to interact with ANY poster on this board without undue concern that somebody will call the feds.

Frankly I am fed up.

While I try to chill out, I will ask a question. Are there any restrictions stopping Curtis (or an equivalent) starting a thread about porn/Hogg/smoking/drinking/illegal acts?

How can we respond naturally knowing he is underage?

My point was that if they’d use their hammer a little more liberally people wouldn’t pull shit like this. If C had the hammer hit him early we’d have all been saved lots of skeeve and AT would have thought twice before doing this thing. No lynching required, my complaint is with the lack of moderation and what it leads to - another crap mess like this one.

just stumbled into this thread

Whoa!

Haven’t finished reading this whole thing but what are people afraid is going to happen to Curtis if he reads this book?

It doesn’t matter what you or I or any other poster here thinks as much as it matters what Mommy and Daddy LeMay think.

Many people here know AT and don’t think he’s grooming the kid. Mommy and Daddy LeMay don’t know him.

If your Uncle Cecil says to your four year old daughter “Come over kid and give me a kiss and I’ll give you a piece of candy” and is kidding around, you wouldn’t bat an eye. If some stranger in a mall did it, I assume you’d be skeeved as hell (I would be). From Mommy and Daddy LeMay’s POV, the second example is a hell of a lot closer to their situation.

ARGENT.TOWERS.

I don’t know anything about AF but he doesn’t deserve to get dragged into this shit.

Then we’d have *two *people talking about it all the time…

That he’ll go dragging mommy and daddy out of the snake handling ceremony to tell them that the SDMB sent him sinful, sinful, oh so bad, naughty, why do I feel like I do in gym class when they make me climb the rope, dirty stuff.

Ah, that is where you are wrong. An adult must be circumspect when speaking privately with a child because even the appearance of impropriety could get one thrown in jail or kneecapped with a baseball bat. “Circumspection” in most cases in which the adult is not an authorized authority figure, such as a scout leader or teacher, means “don’t ever do it.” Even authority figures mostly know enough to have a witness present because not doing that is asking for trouble. AT was begging for trouble, though he probably did not realize it. I hope he has finally gotten that clue and will understand his apologies in the spirit I hope they were offered.

It’s a fucking joke. There was a thread started a couple days ago that touched on their names being similar with almost exactly the same title.

Win.

Shut this thread down, we’ve hit the pinnacle.

Right. And at least on a message board, all of the interaction is part of the public record.

Read the thread and attempt to understand what is being said: It wasn’t the book, per se, it was an adult sending a PM recommending it to a 13-yr-old whose parents could bring down upon the SDMB a world of hurt if they found out.

I don’t think that book could possibly turn the kid on, but the issue was never really what would happen to him if he read it anyway (though I think it’s disingenuous for anyone to suggest that a book like this could not possibly be disturbing to a 13 year old. It’s disturbing to ME, and I’m an extremely jaded and misanthropic 43 year old), but about the lack of wisdom in recommending it to him in a private message.

That’s actually really beside the point. It wasn’t necessarily a matter of people feeling that there was any thing that was going to be a direct result of his reading the book, but that it was wildly inappropriate to suggest it,* as AT has himself agreed.*

Some people have just chosen to display an amazing inability/unwillingness to read for comprehension and keep saying that everyone is crying pedophile, which actually didn’t happen.

Yessss? That would be why I said if it was a joke, it is poorly timed.

There sure enough are a few bitches who can’t read right around here.

Exactly.

Jeebus X Christos, if I suggested my own grandson read anything even CLOSE to as filthy as the material under discussion my daughter’d have my fucking head and I’d probably thank her if she had me committed on a 72 hour mental hold to make sure I’m not sliding into senile dementia. And, may I note, she’s no fainting flower–she allows him to see some fairly advanced movies (think Tarantino) and read pretty liberally, but this is beyond the pale. If I offered it to a stranger’s child as a recommendation–leaving aside the issue of encouraging said child to go against their parent’s wishes–I’d have no one but myself to blame when the cops came knocking on my door enquiring as to my intentions and motivations.

Yeah, and a completely blameless poster now comes up in a Google search as being the target of a thread about inappropriate contact with a minor. Ha ha, funny joke, get it?
