Argent Towers once had an awkward moment … just to see what it was like.
I like him. I think his positions are often logically inconsistent, and he can be a bit contrarian, and he shoots off his mouth before thinking sometimes… but it’s the internet, for fuck’s sake.
Oh, and Chuck Norris checks the closet for Argent Towers before going to bed.
Just great.
Now, every time I see an Argent Towers post, I’m gonna think of Dutch Dwarves wearing 17th century plate mail hiding in Chuck Norris’ bedroom closet.
Yes, but the real question is: what are they doing in there, and what are their plans?
Then this painting would probably make your head explode.
Judging by the painting just posted - having a family reuinion?
Ah, yes, the original version of *The Order Of The Stick. *
If it’s any consolation, the Hogg thing is starting to taper off…lately I’ve been more into Kiesel and Rakosi. You’ll start seeing more references to obtuse Objectivist poetry.
And maybe I’ll start writing
posts like this – and,
unique in their superfluity,
they’ll sing like a cricket
in an old coffee can.
Why is that one girl wearing armour?
That painting freaks me out. Four dudes in (ugly-ass) armor, and then there’s that one dude on the far right just nancing about in his ribbons and curls. What’s WITH that.
But Pitting Argent? Seriously? He’s one of the rare dudes on here that you can butt heads with hard in GD and then see his user name and think “That Argent, he’s a pretty good dude, even if we disagreed like whoah in that one thread.”
Except that AD acted like a complete tool in the cop shooting threads. This pitting is well deserved, even if his fan club disagrees.
One of us! One of us!
Speaking as a lefty, I am pleased that those of us who do not adhere to the “Off the pigs!” slogan are, upon consideration, exempted from his blanket condemnation. Yes, that is certainly more reasonable than it initially appeared. It is a phrase I haven’t heard uttered in near on forty years, and would be just as pleased never to hear again.
I am sure many of us are pleased to be returned to the fold of acceptable persons, in **Argent Tower’s **estimation. So, we can go on about our lives, then? Thanks awfully.
I don’t know about extremely similar, but I’ve made that mistake before.
The worst thing about him is that he has to put a Zager & Evans reference in every other thread. We get it, you like them. Otherwise he is pretty non-offensive. The OP is getting his panties in a twist because he holds a different opinion? But the premise of this thread is so apparent that not even one cite is necessary?
A shame really. We have come to expect great things of you.
There are few things more complimentary than a pitting that peters out into wisecracks and jokes. Argent Towers, you should be pleased. Congratulations.
I assume if the OP wanted to refer to something specific, he’d’ve provided a link instead of vomiting up a bunch of bile with no referent.
This is not necessarily criticism, but the dude seems sort of fascinated with himself in the way a quirky precocious teen might be. This can be obnoxious when it infiltrates every interaction. See e.g., Armor (unending discussion of), Hogg (film).
He also often appears to come at things as if his frame of reference is the default universal experience. These might not be good examples, but they’ll have to do. A while back he started a thread on the use of the abbreviations C.E. and B.C.E. instead of A.D. and B.C. The gist of his OP was that this usage appeared to be new, as it was something he’d noticed within the last few years. Never mind that the “last few years” corresponded with his higher education, there was no hint of an understanding that his introduction to these terms did not coincide with these term’s introduction to academia.* Another is the thread he references in this pitting - the high school experience thread. In it he decries fictional representations of high school, specifically in the show Freaks and Geeks, as inaccurate because such representations do not correspond with his experience. This is ironic because for so many that particular show nailed it. And ti wasn’t like he approached it as “was it really like this for anyone?” He’d concluded it was unrealistic. This seems good evidence of his failure to appreciate the diversity of experiences, even with something like high school within this country.
All that being said, I don’t think he’s a bad guy and my post here is petty, but there it is.
*For what it’s worth, the terms were in wide usage in academia when I was a lowly undergrad in the early nineties. I know not when they were introduced but it was well before Argent Towers took notice of them
He’s the only person I keep on ignore. I would block Diogenes, but he posts too much and it fucks up the threads. Argent Towers posts a lot too, but I find its worth it to keep him blocked. I mostly just read on here, and his posts always made me roll my eyes, and occasionally get all the way grumpy. I found out when I blocked him, I enjoyed reading so much more! Just a thought, dnooman. Anyway, I hear ya
There’s a film version of it now?!
That nancy-boy is the future William III, King of England. (Another fascinating factoid that miss elizabeth will miss out on.)
