My daughter is in the process of choosing a college. One of those she’s seriously considering is NAU. They offer the major she wants and she kind of likes the idea of being there. The thing is, she also wants to play volleyball.
We got an invitation to an Open House at the school and thought we’d go see how it is, so I did some checking at their website, just for some background. All was going well, even though the volleyball possibility looked a little remote. (They’re Div. I and a young team, so she might not have a chance.) But then I noticed that the head coach was listed as “acting head coach” and I thought I’d see if there was any indication of whether he would be staying. Well, lo and behold, behind that there was this major scandal involving the previous head coach. I did some searching and found some very disturbing info, which makes me glad she isn’t the coach anymore. But it also sounds as if the program might be in a real mess.
So, I’m wondering if any of you have any idea how things are? Sometimes people in the area can get some sense of what’s going on, and I know that not every reference to events gets archived. So if you can tell me anything, even if it’s just hunch or feeling, I’d appreciate it.
The article I read said that only five of last year’s fifteen players are returning, and that one of the recruits who had signed for this year had changed her mind. So I’m wondering if this might be a team that’s rebuilding, or a team that will take a while to get past this and get things back together. Also, do you get any sense of whether this acting coach will be offered the position permanently?
Anything you can tell me might be helpful.
