arnold palmer

okay, im hoping someone has an answer for this. i work as a bartender in a resturaunt, and sometimes people will order order a half lemonade/half ice tea,and thats what they called it. well, about 2 months ago someone ordered an arnold plamer. i didnt know what it was but i learned…okay fine. however, for some reason now ive gotten about 20 requests for arnold palmers, and so have my co-workers. so im wondering if anyone knows what happened in the recent past that made this term so popular…was it on an episdoe of “Fraiser” or something?
thanks

So what is an Arnold Palmer?

Arnold Palmer isn’t a “term.” He’s a character in the Links™ line of computer golfing games.

Sheesh, some people.

One more crack like that, Sleep, and the golfing gods will see to it that you spend eternity with Bobby Jones’ sweatsocks tied around your neck.

From Redherring.com "The Rules of Being Rich (Jan. 2000)

“Sipping an “Arnold Palmer” (lemonade and iced tea), Mr. Petras says that No. 2 to 4 of his rules of the road can be summarized into one: Get some good handlers.”

A search (of ‘arnold palmer’+‘lemonade’) also came up with a couple of restaraunts with it on their menus.

To return to the OP,

Tubring,
We did just finish the Masters, the year’s biggest golf deal. Imagine if, three days after the Superbowl, a bunch of people came in and started ordering a dring called the “Elway.” It’s the same thing.

Of course, Elway wasn’t nearly as good at football as Mr. Palmer is at golf. Not his fault, it’s just that the Sport of Kings is a much more demanding game, both physically and mentally…

(I love starting an argument!)

*Iced tea = water infused with tea, chilled. Often served with lemon and sugar.

Lemonade = sugared lemon juice diluted with water.*

Doesn’t this make an “arnold palmer” just a glass of iced tea with lemon and sugar? What’s the big deal?

Much in the same way that a martini is just some gin and vermouth mixed together. But you’d be amazed how picky some people can get over how it gets mixed, and how much of each…

Actually, at half-lemonade and half-tea, what you’re getting is very weak tea with very strong lemon flavors. Actually sounds kind of interesting, not that I think about it…

Give to Radiskull!

To the OP, there has been a Nantucket Nectars radion commercial running here in the Chicago area for a month or so in which they refer to the drink in question as an arnold palmer. That’s where I first heard the term. If Nantucket Nectars is promoting it fairly heavily, that could be a reason for the upswing.

Well, blessed is just about everyone with a vested interest in the status quo, as far as I can tell.
