Arrested Development returns May 2013!

No thread to celebrate the return of Arrested Development?

Not only is there a season 4, but also a feature film!

I so hope it’ll be as good as the original run.

Anyone else looking forward to it?

I am. I don’t even care if it isn’t as good, as long as it is good.

Primary reason I signed up for Netflix.

Definitely looking forward to it. I’m keeping my expectations in check – the third season was already a drop in quality in my opinion and there’s a few recent shows to challenge AD’s “funniest show ever” title. Even so, it’s a great cast, a very talented team behind the camera, and a really interesting experiment in Internet-based entertainment.

Great show, I also hope they don’t ruin it somehow. One of the best shows of all time.

Yeah, they could screw it all up. But they had a pretty good formula, if they don’t come up with any bright ideas to make it better everything should work just fine.

What channel will it be on? Still FOX?

“Channel?” What is this, the 20th century?

It’ll be on Netflix streaming.

Crap. I spend enough just keeping my satellite dish up and running. I’m tapped out on entertainment funds, and Netflix is out of the question.

Thanks Obama!
They’re going to be released all at once on Netflix, so if you can get one of those “one month free” deals…

not excited

you can’t recapture lightning

I’m looking forward to it.

But you recapture it with every post!

(joking aside, I really hope they keep it simple and stick to what worked so well)

I may sign up for Netflix just for this. Funniest show ever.

This may tempt me into trying out Netflix Canada.

I wonder if Gob will have a large role, considering that Will Arnett is working on another show at the moment. Does anybody else from the original cast have commitments like that?

A bunch of them do. They do not all appear in every episode, but will cross paths with each other over the course of the episodes. In fact, we will get to see the same events happening to multiple characters, giving us new perspective on scenes as we watch the whole set.

To me that sounds interesting. It would be fun to turn back and re-watch something from another viewpoint, almost like Rashomon. I hope the new show is funny, though I am a bit worried that it may turn out to be a very bad show. Anyone remember Sit Down and Shut Up?

(Edited, as a light bulb goes off.)

Okay - having not all of the cast appear in every episode to compensate for the fact that lots of the cast are busy with other projects makes some sense to me.

But I’m not quite sure what you mean about ‘get to see the same events happening to multiple characters’ - do you mean an event that Gob and Buster are both involved in, shooting it from both of their POV without having both actors on the set at the same time? That sounds like it could be confusing or look fake - but I guess we’ll see how it works out.

As I understand it, the only character to appear in all of the episodes will be Michael. And then all of them will appear together in the last episode.

Each episode will follow a different character and catch the viewers up on what that character has been up to since the original series finale.

I imagine the “same events from different angles” might be more about characters referencing - or somehow interacting - with things that are happening in the story to other characters, not actually showing you the event from their perspective.

ETA: For example, using something from an old episode… We could hear about something like the Mother-Boy Pageant from various angles. Lindsay commenting on it to Michael and saying “I’d rather fake an illness than go to that.” and then later we hear Buster complaining that Lindsay can’t make it to MotherBoy because she’s in the hospital with something or other.

I hope they haven’t made a huge mistake.
