Let me preface this by saying that my favorite all-time rock band is Pink Floyd. The Floyd RULES! End of discussion.
So imagine my delight to learn that Roger Waters, ex-lyricist and bass player for Pink Floyd was coming to Seoul to play a show! I have seen RW twice before (the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking tour, and the Radio Chaos tour), and both were GREAT shows… about 1/2 old Pink Floyd stuff, and 1/2 solo material.
I contacted hersiarch to see if he wanted to go, and then had Astrogirl order some tickets for us from a Korean internet site (Astrogirl couldn’t go… ). The seats ranged in price from 50,000 won (about $40) to 150,000 won; after consulting, we decided to go with the cheap seats, as neither hersiarch nor I wanted to spend the money for the good seats, and we figured that they would have some big screens set up for the people in the cheap seats…
Well, hersiarch and I went to the show the other day. It was a GREAT show! Man! I miss going to rock concerts! There are few good shows that come to Korea… We had a great time. Mr. Waters, surprisingly, played mostly old Floyd songs… only a few of his solo songs. But it was an excellent show, and hersiarch and I enjoyed ourselves immensely!
an aside to the drunk Canadian guy we met during the intermission: Man, if you’re going to sit behind us, and sing annoyingly LOUDLY and off-key, at least get the lyrics right! Sheesh!
So now it’s a few days later, and I have discovered something: a co-worker of mine was hired to translate for the band, and was at the show working! He could have gotten us backstage passes!!
AAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Why didn’t I know this a few days ago?
I could have met Roger Waters, one of my all-time heros, slobbered on him, and gotten an autograph! I blew a great opportunity because I don’t network with my co-workers! Someone shoot me, please!
[sup]Sorry, hersiarch![/sup]
