ARRRGH! (Beware, Board complaints)

I had a nice response in that odd “Kollective” thread written, checked, and I attempted to submit it…

and nothing. 404 city.

Then the browser crashed. Which has been happening continuously when I try to access this board. It’s a testament to the quality of the posts that I even bother coming here. Frustrating that I’m too interested to leave and yet can’t stay on.

What the heck is going ON on this board? Is it bursting the limits of the server? Is the software having trouble scaling? Is there some dodgy javascript that nobody caught that might explain why this (and only this) page goes through browser windows like a college student goes through No-Doze during finals? Is my computer utterly fucked?

Inquiring minds that like the board but whom the board doesn’t apparently likes back want to know.

Well, I hate to be the one to tell you, but that only happens to those who aren’t in the Clique[sup]TM[/sup]

NOw, of course, you’ll have to die.

Just a hint: write your post in Wordpad or something and save it before you hit “Submit Reply / Crash Browser”. Then you at least won’t lose all that hard work when your computer seizes up.

Dammit! Sometimes I think that I’m in the Clique and then BOOM. It’s like Clique ON, Clique OFF. So tell me 5K+ post boy, who do I have to pay off?

Clique On!
Clique Off!

The Cliquer!

The first thing you gotta do is get wring’s gender right.

Then send me 2k.

Double dammit! I promise to pay more attention… really!

Biggirl, her ya go.

I have the same server problems. There are a few posts I wanted to make, but the server timed out.

I don’t know why I would bother. No one ever acknowledges anything I post, anyway - I guess because I am not in the Clique. Heaven forbid you should be a newbie around here.

Your concerns are completely valid and you must not take any lack of acknowledgement to be a slur on your integrity or worth as an individual. Happy now?

I must admit that my replies often time out, but they usually get submitted (so far… knock on wood); if I don’t hit “preview” most of the time, I figure it’s all good! Then again, there have been horrible mistakes in my posts because I didn’t hit “preview”. This happens to be one of the quick times, or at least it seems that way. If I hit “refresh” or go back to the forum that I submitted my reply in, it’s usually there. (but I do copy and paste sometimes from another text editorl don’t want to lose all that hard work!)

Of course, losing replies because the browser crashes (which has never happened to me yet so far) or because the whole computer crashes/performs illegal operations by the bucketload, is not such a good thing, either!

I guess I might be in The Clique[sup]TM[/sup]: people have acknowledged what I post (does quoting my posts count?), they’ve acknowledged me as a person (I think), at least two of them (to date) have emailed me, and I even got a Pit thread dedicated to me. So I guess I’m in… unless there are other, more stringent requirements!

Damn… this is a fast time for the board and I don’t even use “preview”? GAAAAAAAAH!!!

For “… from another text editorl don’t want to lose all that hard work…”, read “from another text editor**;** don’t want to lose all that hard work…”

P.S. I figure that if my replies time out, the board is being very slow!

How many times do we have to cover this? There is a limited amount of bandwidth, and a server that has been upgraded but still is far from state of the art.

There’s a site for Flash (and Swish) developers called Flashkit at http://www.flashkit.com that has almost 320,000 members as of this writing. It is seldom slow, but that is because it operates with an array of multiple servers, each a powerhouse of computing, and pushes its data through banks of T3 lines. If you want speed, go there. They have an off-topic forum.

But if you want quality, stay here. Don’t forget the first rule of distribution, the Pick Any Two theory — pick any two: price, quality, speed. You can get an inexpensive item of good quality, but it will take time; you can get a high quality item quickly, but it will cost you; or you can get an item very fast at a high price, but the quality will have no guarantee.

OK Lib, how about: property, rights, freedom.

I’m going to hell for this…

Handcart for kabbes!
Did someone order a handcart for kabbes?

Kay Kay? ya know it’s bad form to talk about people who aren’t here, and she really wasn’t all that ba…

**BigGirl **whispers…[sub]um, that’s the letter K, twice[/sub]
Oh…
never mind.

No fair using three synonyms.

I’m having a similar problem - I’ve been trying to participate in a GD thread, and everything I hit ‘preview’ to check my coding I get ‘server not found’ over and over and over . . . Once or twice I was able to ‘back’ up to my original reply page and hit ‘preview’ again, which sometimes worked. For the last two days, though, even that doesn’t work because my ‘reply’ page disappears! All my ‘back’ button shows is the thread page :(.

And I’ve tried the Wordpad thing, which is annoying because I’m not used to it and its awkward - but I still can’t preview. The only way I can get a post to go through is to use the little ready-made reply box at the end of the page and ‘submit’ from there without previewing. Even then it sometimes takes 15 to 20 minutes for the entire process to get me from ‘submit’ back to the thread.

I’ve been assuming that it is partly a problem from my end, because my computer has been cranky (Windows Me - don’t do it!) and my internet access has been incredibly slow for the last few days no matter what website I’m trying to view. I started to ask over in ATMB if there was something else going on, because its terribly, terribly frustrating!

Of course, what makes it really aggravating is to finally get a chance to read the boards and see where a bunch of numbnuts with cream-of-wheat for brains have been posting merrily away . . . Granted, I’m not exactly the Einstein of the SDMB, but at least I can form a complete sentence, and sometimes even convey a coherent thought or two.

Kinda makes you feel like the SDMB gods are shitting on you, you know?

shrug Nothing really to be done about it, I guess, unless they do happen to find a fixable glitch in the board software.

Of course, finding a 'possum in my kitchen one night and a raccoon the next night hasn’t exactly improved my mood any. Geez, you’re supposed to be wild animals, why are you in my kitchen? And who taught you how to open the screen door? And you could at least have acted a little scared instead of calmly waddling your fat ass back out when I yelled, and then hanging around in the back yard waiting to see if I closed the wooden door or not. At least the raccoon was properly respectful, that damned 'possum seems to think he lives here and snarls and hisses at me every time we meet.

ahem Sorry about that, got carried away.

Bah. He’s always got the comeback line.

Trying to one-up Lib is like being a permanent straightman.

Not to mention the problem with posts coming in two, three, or even four times.

Flamsterette_X, don’t kid yourself about THE CLIQUE. You apparently are Canadian, and they are prejudiced against Canadians in THE CLIQUE. (That’s the only reason I can think of for me not being included. I mean, what more can they possibly want from a poster?!?)

chrisk72, enjoy not being noticed. Getting noticed around here usually means you’re doing something particularly offensive. There’s a lot of members here, ya know?
