Art of Fugue for newbs

If this is even possible… could someone guide me through this amazing piece of music. I’m a total musical ignoramus and I have looked up a couple of summaries on the www, but they all rapidly turned into words and descriptions as meaningless to me as musical notation itself :frowning:
so is it possible for something so musically complex to be explained to a dummy like me? or should I just appreciate it as I do… as a musical newb?

in particular, I’m dying to know what the beautiful instrument is that’s used on the last 2 movements of the first cd (I’ve got it on a double, performed by Stuttgart symphony with Munchinger, the other piece on the other cd is Musical OFfering) - tracks 18 + 19. harpsichord? glockenspiel? it’s so amazing…

Thanks!
