I thought the same thing. However a google image search of “fertility statues” brings up many thin ones as well.

Well-done photographs. But hardly novel. Or beautiful, IMHO. I’d feel horrifying trapped were I to find myself in a body like that. I feel sorry for those women.
My sister, the cardiac nurse, doubts the authenticity of these pics and insists they must be heavily Photoshopped. She says that her morbidly obese patients are plagued with skin problems like yeast infections, staph, heat rashes, bedsores, etc. Dimpled with cellulite, pockmocked from stubborn sores. Says there is zero chance the preternaturally smooth skin in the photos is real.
It doesn’t challenge beauty it spits right in its face. Are there female sumos?

To be fair, the link says that the artist found the models via New York’s “Fat Acceptance” scene, so there’s a good chance that these women are atypical.
She’s wrong. I’ve seen plenty of nude obese women (and men – and thin ones – and everything in between) and this is simply not the case.
It may be that your sister is biased, because her job puts her in the company of sick people.
I have a very heavy 57-year-old friend (a little over 300 lbs at 5’2") and apart from some dimpling, her skin is quite smooth. And I’ve seen her - and plenty of other people of all sizes - quite a lot, because we’ve spent time at nudist places together.
She gets rashes in between the folds of her skin, which I imagine is common with the obese. But you can’t see them without, you know, lifting a fold and looking.
I’m sorry - this is not beauty. It’s disturbing. Any rational person would probably be aghast at these photos, because of what it says about the health of these women.
I’m sure these are nice people, and I don’t think they should be banished or jailed or anything, but I have an issue with “fat acceptance” and am uncomfortable with the idea that these photos are meant to say it’s even marginally okay to be that heavy. Do these women have children? Are they passing on their exercise routines and diets to those kids?

Its a fetish for some to be overpowered by another’s corpulence. Not pretty IMHO. Its morbid.
Good thing she’s not a Doper, otherwise she’d write a mile long rant similar to the one I’ve listened to since she viewed those pics. She is certain that each of those women is diabetic, which means that even minor heat rashes and skin infections are persistent and frequent. The yeast problems will be hidden from view in the creases and folds of skin, under breasts and especially on the back under skin folds out of reach.
Her complaint as a healthcare worker includes all of the injuries she and her coworkers receive trying to clean, change bedding and such. Even with the crane someone on her floor is always suffering a back injury. I wish I hadn’t shown her the pics, ruined her day.
I’m fairly accepting of people. Those photos, if real, are horrifying.
Just think about the poor skeletons trapped inside all that ham. 
The photographs are nicely done.
The models are not beautiful. No human should look like that or weigh that much.
I’m sure they’re nice people, but my standards for physical beauty don’t include much above say, 160 lbs.

I would peg her closer to 200, but she looks healthy and her body and face are gorgeous. There are miles between “overweight” and the women pictured in the OP.
