Now I’m not going to rant against anyone here but I’m going to state an opinion that probably isn’t popular. Fat is ugly. Maybe I should clarify a bit. Not being skinny enough for hollywood’s standards isn’t ugly. And having a couple of extra pounds isn’t ugly. But morbid obesity is certainly ugly. I can’t think of many beautiful women from history who were obese. I’m sure y’all might know of a few but I bet they’re abberents.
Well most of the women I have dated have been err above average in weight, but they are damn sexy AND attractive. If you are so small minded to discrimnate against someone because they have a few extra pounds then you are a shallow and vain person, and you are the type of person I abhore because you only appreciate people for the shallowest of traits…and if you fit in that category then fuck you Mark you are an intolerant bigot and I hope you rot in hell.
You know I like to think I have a pretty good sense of humor. I laugh at fat jokes all the time. I actually crack fat jokes all the time.
But that trailor made me distinctly uncomfortable, to the point that I wanted to leave the theatre all together. And do you know why? Because of people like you MGibson.
There are some truly ugly people in this world, and I don’t think it has anything to do with physical appearance.
Can I have an order of nachos and a beer? And maybe some buffalo wings? Hm, those mozzarella sticks look pretty good (even if I don’t know how to spell them). You know, I’m in the mood for ribs. Can I order a rack? Good. Oh, and a diet coke.
The definitions for being an intolerant bigot are pretty wide. Keep in mind that I haven’t said that obese people need to be sent to concentration camps, that they should be fired, that they shouldn’t be allowed to marry, or that they should avoid all contact with other human beings. I’m an intolerant bigot because I think obesity is ugly.
Well let me give you a list of other physical traits I find ugly. Rotting teeth, festering sores, and emaciated bodies are a few that come to immediate mind. There goes that intolerant bigot shining through again. I guess I should just realize that physical looks are meaningless and it is shallow to think of anyone as ugly or beautiful.
And you must have missed the OP because I specifically said that having a few extra pounds didn’t make you ugly. I did mention something about being obese though.
Wow, I like you more already MGibson! I’m sure glad you clarified that fat people are in the same category as those with festering sores and rotting teeth! Jeeze, and all this time I thought you were just being a jerk. Now, of course, I know better.
Fat IS ugly. Why, every time I look at a pork chop, with that big rim of fat all around it, I can hardly wait to get after it with my steak knife. Cut it off, cut it off, cut it ALL off…

Fine, you don’t find large women attractive. You know what? That’s ok. I don’t find short men particularly attractive, but I don’t start threads about it, because that’s my own fucking opinion and I like to keep it to myself.
But, what I’m getting at here was, did you really need to dig up old wounds and pour more lemon juice on them? Did you really need to cause more hurt feelings across the board? Did you really want most people on the board to come by and spank you because you’re judging people on their looks than the things that really matter like personality and intelligence?
Anyways, I think you’ve already shown where the true ugliness lies.
Ok. I have read this over and over trying to decide to comment or not. I have to mention this really does not even deserve my opinion, but what the hell…I’m bored. Who are you to say what is ugly and what is beautiful? Being fat or skinny is just something that makes us who we are. I know some people who are “morbidly over weight” and I see nothing ugly about them. The reason that you can not think of any beautiful women in history who are over weight is because society in general does not allow the thought that fat can be and is beautiful.
Why not? Obesity typically leads to many problems such as diabetis, high blood pressure, clogged arteries, heart problems, and of course back and joint problems. Festering sores and rotting teeth are a sign of bad health just as obesity is. Why not put them in similiar categories?
Marc, I’d just changed my opinion of you for the positive, and then…well, it’s not going to be a good thread, most likely.
Regardless of how you feel about it, and how valid you feel your points in the OP are, this is an inflammatory subject that is likely to cause pain on two levels. Pain for a lot of people on the SDMB who are going to be offended; and pain for yourself, from people who flame you, deride you, and make mental notes to ignore your valid comments and points in debates in the future.
Believe me, I’ve started Pit threads I wish I hadn’t, and paid the price. I respectfully wish you would reconsider doing this.
So do you object to obesity because you are such a caring person, and are concerned about everybody’s health? Or do object to obesity because you are a jackass?
Somehow, I don’t think it’s the first one. If it were, you wouldn’t say fat=ugly, you would say fat may equal poor health. (After all, I was working out 5 times a week before I started school, and was in better shape then most people I knew. Shoot, Ive never ehad any of the problems you so kindly listed)
But you didn’t, so don’t try to back pedal, or use a red herring now. It makes you look like more of a jerk (hard, but you are succeeding marvelously)

You see, beauty is a subjective matter that not only crosses cultures, eras and personal preferences, it really doesn’t matter what you say is beautiful or ugly. You don’t like fat chicks? Fine, they’re better off without you.
But why try to tell me what is ugly or beautiful? Because I likely won’t agree with you. And what appeals to me is all that I care about in making my own relationships. You probably wouldn’t find my fiancee attractive, but why should that matter to me, since I’m marrying her and your not - again, lucky for her.
All you’ve done with your opening post is piss off a lot of people. What we’re you expecting? That people would hit their foreheads with the palm of their hand, and say, “Of course, it’s all so clear to me know that MGibson has outlined for me that Fat is Ugly. Thanks, Marc.”
You deserve what you’re getting, not because you’re a bad person; it’s just because you ain’t too bright.
The man has a right to his opinions. How is this different then if in an IMHO “What do you find sexy?” thread he said that he found obese women attractive? If you can accept the positive, why can’t you acknowledge the negative?
What if this had been a thread about what people thought were turnoffs? Would you go after someone if they said cigarette breath or unwashed hair? Some people cannot control their weight? Some people cannot quit smoking. I give everybody a right to decide what they think is attractive and unattractive. I think all of you should do the same.
