Ask the conservative asshole

Do you take prescription painkillers for chronic pain?

I have a theory and I’m taking an informal survey.

No.

But if you’d like to share…

I’m not sure we’re ideological enemies. I describe myself as a “conservative radical” – I would like to see a really immense degree of social/political change, but I don’t want to endanger what we’ve got in order to get there. I believe in proceeding cautiously and making sure any new stuff works before building on it. I also do not believe in culprits. I do believe there are categories of people who have been marginalized, mistreated, left out, disenfranchised, enslaved, oppressed, etc – and with very few exceptions my list would correspond with the list you’d get from social activist liberals – but I don’t think the inequalities and unfairnesses benefitted some class of people we can blame and say “this was your fault”, and I dont’ regard it as productive to seek someone to blame for it.

• Do you wish to see society change from how it is? If so, do some of the changes you’d like to see overlap the list of desired changes you would expect from the liberal folks? Can you list areas of overlap and areas of disagreement?

• What are the specific viewpoints or understandings of things social where you think the liberal folks are fundamentally wrong? How many such areas are “diagnosis of the problem” disagreements and how many are more at the “proposed solution” level?

• Do you have any general response to the general accusation that conservative folks have not done much to fix real social problems such as various inequalities and unnecessary deprivations and pains and other social ills?

Keep grinning, asshole. Your last vote nearly cost you your own medicare and financial security of your entire family. It still might. Dumbass.

I’'ll certainly agree with the first part of what you said Ahunter3 (well said).

But I’m not answering questions that sound like a college homework assignment (well, I might at some point but not right now).

Well, I can add this…my beef with liberal postions (not to say conservatives do not often do the same damn thing) is at some point they are too extreme/impractical.

Kinda like I am a free market guy and then somebody comes along ranting about how all roads should be privately built and tolls and shit. How would that even work ?

Why do some conservatives think they’re better judges of what it’s like being a minority in America today than the actual minorities do? Do they really believe they’re more objective?

If someone came up to you and said, “my family and/or I will literally die if the ACA is repealed,” what would your response to their face be? “I’m sorry about that, but that’s not my problem”? “You’re being melodramatic; of course you won’t die, you can find the money or treatment somehow”? “I know a better way for you to get the help you need that Congress and the President will pass; here it is: <fill in the blank>”?

It might cost you yours too.

Just saying.

Until health care mostly become some free thing mostly provided by cheap robots. Yeah, people will die.

Hell, it’s not like I am on some golden health insurance myself. Something bad and really expensive comes along…I’m a dead man posting. And I’m not being flippant here.

So you’d wish possible bankruptcy and possible death on you and other’s families just to burn the balls of liberals?

If it’s good enough for me…it’s good enough for somebody else.

But seriously, people dealing with bad shit…because not enough money…thats the human condition to be honest.

So instead of maybe trying to work out a way to change that condition for the better, you just throw up your middle finger at those who want to try?

No.

Come up with something PRACTICAL and I’'ll support it (or at least not fight it to the death).

Even if it can be completely avoided? In fact, has been to a very large extent thus far. But you’re perfectly happy to throw it all away - cut off your own nose to spite your face - just to show those libruls!

Wow. Calling you an asshole is being way too kind.

If you think that’s actually my position…well, have at it.

Do you think the ACA is *less *practical than what came before it?

Medicare, you fucking putz. Somebody came up with it and it’s been working by avoiding much of the unnecessary human suffering since 1965.

BOOM

The issue a lot of us on the left have with the NFL issue is that white nationalists are using ‘respect for the troops’ as an excuse to clamp down on black people’s civil rights.

However when it comes to people who actually killed US troops (like Nazis or confederate soldiers) who white nationalists philosophically agree with, they are silent about the dignity of the troops.

Black people peacefully protesting police brutality = an insult to US troops.
Celebrating white nationalists that killed US troops by waving their flags and defending monuments to them? Perfectly fine.

Stuff like that really bothers us on the left.

Same song different verse.

Again…I’m not debating in depth any particular issue.

When you find your own position, or your ass with both hands, whichever comes first, let everyone know.

If you’d be so kind as to dig up the televised first night of the DNC stage I would be appreciative.
