Ask the guy in the Jeopardy! UToC

If you guys see Chuck Forrest, please tell him I love him.

This board has a monstre, a monstro, and a monster? My head … it hurts…

</hijack>

It was only about 2 days ago that I realized that **monstre ** and **monstro ** were not, in fact, the same name. Now if I can figure out how to remember which is male and which is female…

A little late on the wagon, but did you get a chance to meet my girl Jenny Wu? She was the Teen Champion from my tournament. :slight_smile:

Here ya go-go.

Sorry! But if it makes you feel better, sometimes even I’ll read monsto’s posts and go, “Gee, I don’t remember saying that!”

Slightly off topic, but I’d like to take this opportunity to grumble. I’m not tired of the UToC per se, but by some cosmic fluke I managed to get a tryout for Jeopardy! in January, and I made it into the contestant pool. But I’m only going to be a “potential” until next January, and with this tournament taking up about half the year, I feel my chances of getting picked to come on the show are being substantially slimmed. Certainly, nothing will happen before July, and by then about half of my eligible year will be gone. Yeah, I know: “Cry me a river, pal…” But I’m still bitter, angry and resentful that my shot may be getting swamped.

Having said that, and for what it’s worth, once I learned I’d get the tryout I started watching each show and keeping track of how many of the clues I could solve. I made a chart and everything–trying to be scientific about it, you see. I began this in January, and have continued into the Tournament. Pre-UToC, I averaged knowing around 70% of the clues on the board for the full game. Lately, during the Tournament, I’ve seen my average drop closer to 60%; some games it’s been more like 50%. So, bottom line, from my standpoint, I think the clues have actually been more difficult during the UToC shows, contrary to what some have said here. Thus, it’s very impressive to do well at all in these programs, and 5tc and h. sapiens should feel good if they got to the final round in decent shape. (“If” in h.sapiens’s case; we already know 5tc did well, even with barely getting beat.)

Of course, that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Monstre = male.

If it helps, mine’s a shortened version of a username I’ve used elsewhere for over a decade – BobMonstre.

Even if you find it under “Armenian War Heroes” for $2000? :slight_smile:

Well, it depends on how much less they bet. People who bet $200 when they’ve gotten questions in the category so far correct annoy me. Even if it does seem like a difficult category.

I reserve my strongest irritation for people who find the daily double early in the first round and are allowed to bet more money than they presently have but decline to do so, or at least bet as much as the original question amount. Come on, you have all game to make it up, if you get it wrong.

The thing with the Daily Double is that you can’t turn it down. If you get a regular question you don’t know, you can just not say anything and let the other players try for it, and lose nothing, but you can’t do that with the Daily Double. So maybe you’ve already finished all of the categories you’re confident of, and pick Armenian War Heroes just because it’s the last category left (and after all, heck, you might know one of the questions). You hit the Double. What do you do? If you don’t think you can get the question, then any bet is probably just throwing your money away.

As another poster mentioned, Im curious as to what you guys talk about at the end of the show.
