Do you ever get couples coming to you wanting to do a scene together (with or without additional participants)? Or is it always individuals?
Quite a lot actually, sometimes they want to do it with no cameras, sometimes they want it shot for their own use only, it all depends I accommodate them if and when I can.
How big a deal is the record keeping related to proving everyone is over 18? Do you just sort of take a copy of everyone’s drivers license and keep it in a file in case you get audited?
thats pretty much it I actually keep it with the documentation for each particular shoot
**Or is there some periodic reporting obligation to some authority? **
there is no reporting to anyone I must either be served with a search warrant or a 2257 records inspection for anyone to see anyones personal info.
**Have you ever found out after the fact that an under-18 presented you a fake ID? **
Never, and I have had a few try…
**What did/would you do in that case? **
Immediately pull and destroy it. But I dont anticipate it happening though it could, Traci Lords for example had a valid CA drivers license and a US Passport. Do the authorities run stings similar to how they go around looking for businesses selling tobacco or alcohol to minors?
I believe they have. I have had a couple of inquiries about shooting both early in my career where when I asked how old she was she said 17 but I will be 18 in two weeks, thats the end of the conversation right there…call me back in two weeks…
Oh man that is annoying! Shoot two scenes and pay the girl twice, ya cheap bastard! Either that, or use enough lights that a flash is not needed. Or learn to use your fucking camera!
How do you charge for that, if it’s not going on your site and making you money?
I shoot concert videos, and while I have no interest in going into the business, I think I could do a decent job making a private porn film. (I’d have to be completely comfortable that nobody was being coerced.) I have a very efficient workflow that allows me to shoot with multiple cameras from multiple angles, transfer to a laptop and edit and deliver an HD finished master while you wait.
Thanks a lot for answering my question, MikeSouth! (and for your insight too, Mister Rik; I’ve never seen one of those films in full so it’s hard to tell). I really was curious; I was wondering if it was maybe always technically legal, but only done more recently as part of the ‘blackbird’ movement, or if someone won a huge hushed-up court case
I’d also like to say I’m enjoying your matter-of-fact writing style greatly!
The only porn movie I ever enjoyed was a takeoff/parody of “Flash Gordon” (the movie was called “Flesh Gordon”). Would you be interested in doing a remake?
Ah well, I guess there is no market if leading industry figures do it for expenses.
The sad part is that they often get the look right, but get the characters all wrong. Lee Roy Myers’ WKRP parody got the look right, did a great job on the sets and had decent enough actors…but didn’t seem to have really watched the series closely. They put characters together who didn’t have a thing for each other. They had Bailey fucking Les, when half the series was about her crush on Johnny! And Nina Hartley could have had a huge amount of fun as Mother Carlson “Hirsch!”
I only do it locally as a courtesy because it actually brings me new talent quite often, plus it generates good will. But if you aren’t local to Atlanta it would be far less pricey to hire someone locally.
as for the parodies yer right on the money they are just a vehicle to present sex, story has little to do with it.
Why is the porn industry so far behind in terms of racial equality? Along those lines, why is it so common to see performers refuse to work with Black actors?
Do you support porn companies suing individuals who download content illegally?
Has the reduced ability to make money off of content led to more performers being escorts? Kinda like how musicians make money of concerts instead of albums.
**1. Why is the porn industry so far behind in terms of racial equality? Along those lines, why is it so common to see performers refuse to work with Black actors? **
I dont agree on this one there is probably more interracial porn than any other genre. There are some girls who wont work with black guys and I even had a black girl that wouldnt work with black guys. No matter what her reasons her requests have to be respected, I cant make her have sex with someone she doesn’t want to, nor would I try. We all discriminate at some level, I have no problem with gay guys but I wouldn’t do a scene with one for instance. 2. Do you support porn companies suing individuals who download content illegally?
I’m iffy on that I much prefer they go after uploaders and filehosts and the like, I don’t think suing downloaders or copyright trolling is the right solution.

ABSO FUCKING LUTELY
4. Why do you dislike Fabian Thylmann?
Fabian has built an empire on stolen content, plain and simple
I respect the niche they carved for themselves (her and hubby) I met her once, she seems nice. They have made a lot of money with a hobby…God bless em, that what this biz is all about.
