I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but do you know if there was some recent legislation allowing more things in porn that weren’t allowed before? For instance, I remember reading an article some years ago that mentioned that it wasn’t okay to show restraint and M/F penetration together, but that seems to be allowed now. I was always curious about that, but googling mainly brings up child porn laws.

What happens immediately after a shoot? I’d imagine maybe a few polite handshakes, some wiping down, maybe showering and the occasional “let’s meet up and do that again but on our own time”.
Thats pretty much right except for the on our own time part, my guys are not allowed to proposition the girls in any way shape or form, if the girl wants his number she may ask for it. That policy keeps the girls more comfy about it all.
I never hear direction during anything I’ve seen with a few exceptions. Are you actively telling them how to position and such during the parts of the shoot we see? Is the direction just between the parts we see, or are you communicating with them and we just can’t hear it?

Do you look at sex differently than you did before entering the biz?
Yes for sure, It has been quite the learning experience and I am astounded at how clueless I was when it came to sexually pleasing a female. Im not just talking about the physiological but also the psychological.
Other than being sex objects, porn actors are real people with real lives. In your experience what is life like for a typical porn actor when they’re off camera?
They are mostly very normal people who do a job and go home, many are married or have an SO most of the people who are in porn for any length of time do not do drugs or party when you do that you tend to burn out very quickly. It isnt unilaterally true but its a good rule of thumb
In L.A. there are tons of people, some even well known who rent their houses out for shoots, they simply list the house as available with the talent agents or whatever

Most have the stamina for sure, speaking for myself, even in real life, I have this internal switch that I throw mentally, it allows me to go for two hours or two minutes.

This question requires an understanding of how obscenity is prosecuted. In the United States of America the only porn that is against the law is child pornography (and rightfully so)
Everything else is subject to “community standards” and the three pronged “Miller Test”
So what is legal in one community may not be legal in another. Its more the states you have to worry about. for example there was a time when people in our biz would not ship interracial porn to certain southern states.
As a general rule we as an industry stayed away from certain things that would be seen as particularly easier to try to prosecute, any depiction of unwilling sex has always been high on that list, including bondage with penetration.
I dont have to tell you that the obscenity laws and the idea of community standards are archaic, whose community governs the internet for example. As a result the industry has become a bit less restrained.
Obscenity law has always been a problem for us because its the only law that you dont know if you ran afoul of it until after the jury finds you guilty
After directing porn for so long, how relevant would the skills you developed be to, say, directing a tv pilot? Ever been offered non-porn work?

I wish I could do that. My technique for trying to prolong the moment is thinking of something disgusting, like the smell of rotting garbage. Often though it has the undesirable side effect of making me go soft and be uninterested in sex anymore!
