Assbandit's Creed - how do you say "dogshit" in Arabic?

Good, the game is dogshit, you shouldn’t play it. It is horseshit. Unfortunately all new games seem to be going in this direction.

I agree that shit was stupid.

It’s a fun game to MST3K, and the controls are pretty neat. Of course it’s blown out of the water by Mirror’s Edge, though Mirror’s Edge is not sandbox like Assassin’s Creed.

Overall the game is pretty lame. It’s pretty, and it’s fun to a point but it’s WAAAAAY too easy. On like the second mission where I killed a Governor, I decided to walk out the front gate and just kill every guard that got in my path. And so I did. From then on there was nothing left really, it was way too easy.

I also hated that there was no opportunity to actually assassinate a Governor, you always got your cover blown right before you got to him and then had to go through an elaborate chase, the only thing that made it difficult was catching up to him quickly. Kind of stupid.

I am playing Mirror’s Edge which is starting to fall into some of the same pitfalls, IE, being too easy. But the story is much better and the controls are much more fluid than Assassin’s Creed.

Man anyone whose idea of a perfect game is anything in the Prince of Persia series has nothing of value to say about any other games.

As far as I’m concerned the only good Prince of Persia game was the one I used to play as a kid on my dad’s Mac Plus, where you had to slip under spiked metal gates before they came down and impaled you. The 3D versions of that game were totally mediocre.

I fucking loved this game. I’m sorry. I can take running leap off a rooftop and stab some guy in the head? I can throw people off of buildings? I’m pretty sure these are trump card arguments I am making here. In conclusion, shut up.

-nameless, who is sleeping with a smoking hot scientist

OK, well, think of it this way. There’s a great game that involves leaping off roofs, stabbing people in the head, and jumping off buildings. The only problem is, every time you play it, there’s an incredibly noxious and pervasive odor of dogshit.

For me the ugly gray-brown aesthetics of the game are that dogshit. I don’t give a fuck what the gameplay mechanics are like if I can’t stand looking at the game because everything in it looks the same goddamn indistinct blurry shade of brown.

I’m glad you’re sleeping with a smoking hot scientist; but that doesn’t change the fact that the game is dogshit.

From what I’ve heard, the flags were a last minute addition dictated by management to pad out the game time, and not something that the design team wanted in the game.

Argent, you might want to consider if video games are really a hobby you want to pursue. If a somewhat mediocre game like Assassin’s Creed can send you into a month’s long paroxysm of rage, I’m scared to think what might happen if you play a game that genuinely sucks.

Have you played Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts?

I play them on-and-off…one game I am REALLY enjoying lately is Mount&Blade. Simple, badass, easy to play, hard to master - everything a good game should be. Just an open-ended medieval game where you start out as a lone warrior and can build up an army of dozens, even hundreds of soldiers, and fight in actual melee battles (rather than RTS-style ones - you’re actually right there in the fray, hacking and slashing guys.) Great horseback-combat system…all different classes of horses with different handling and speed, etc. Great selection of weapons to choose from…the most fun is probably the lance. It’s quite satisfying to run through an enemy with a giant lance after charging at him full speed on an Arabian stallion. I have two special custom mods that make the game look way better than the “stock” version, and add hundreds of new armors and weapons. And it’s colorful!

Ah, I just clicked that you’re talking about the PC version (as opposed to 360 version).

If you do have a 360 and want to play IMO what is one of the most original (and colourful) games for some time, check out Nuts and Bolts.

I liked the original Banjo Kazooie for N64, and I also loved the first Ratchet and Clank game. Is it kind of like that?

To be honest, I haven’t played the older ones.

Nuts & Bolts is largely about building vehicles to perform according to challenges you have to complete. This review is pretty in tune with how I feel about the game.

I have waited a long time for a game that lets you invent and build devices, and then use them. There were games like this when I was a kid (I think it was called “Widget” or something like that) but there hasn’t been one for a modern system in a long time. I will check this out.

I disagree with you about the aesthetics. They were desert buildings. Of course an argument could be made that the holy land was more lush and verdant prior to the Mongol invasions and the resulting degeneration after years of Crusades and the crumbling of Muslim rule, but the brown color is consonant with the setting.

Huh. I resurrect a thread with what I think is a fairly interesting review of the game, and no one responds to it. Oh well.

For my money, no game will ever improve on Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

Heh.

I thought it was a good review. Although it confused the hell out of me at first, because I got you confused with the OP.

Same here. Those A names are easy to confuse.

I let a friend borrow it so I haven’t finished the game yet. But, I have to say I found the graphics beautiful. I made it a point to get to the highest point of each area and look around. I didn’t find it murky in the least. I also enjoyed the futuristic aspects. So far I pick pocketed something from the main guy. I’m interested in seeing how much control they allow you in that area of the game as time goes on.

I was really happy to read was the fact that I wasn’t the only one who hated the stupid flag missions. I have picked up a flag here and there and thought “OH my god. There is no way I will have the patience to go looking for ALL of these.” It doesn’t add to gameplay at all. It’s just busy work.

Agent Foxtrot thanks for pointing out that the history in the game was lose to reality. I wondered a lot while playing how close they stuck to reality. I was too lazy or dumb to look it up. It’s nice to have smart people point out things to me! Thanks!

I do agree. Even without finishing the game the linearity is getting on my nerves. Give us some choices people! Oh well.

I just finished the game last month, after waiting a heckuva long time for the price to drop to something reasonable.

I liked it overall, although it was certainly repetitive. The best bits, of course, were the assassination missions, which of course are just a small part of the overall gameplay. On the plus side, you can pull off some really great moves sometimes, which can give you a quick hit of gaming euphoria. Mine came on the second to last mission, Sibrand, who is a real bugger because he’s paranoid and sees assassins everywhere. I had to get aboard his boat, so I took the long way around, jumping from pole to pole, and finally reached the boat, hanging from the side as I waited for an opening. As luck would have it, Sibrand soon walked right past me yelling at his crew, and he began to climb up the stairs to the rear deck. That was my moment; I heaved myself onto the railing and leaped for him with my hidden blade. I heard a guard yell “ASSASSIN!” while I was in the air, and Sibrand turned around, just in time for me to hit him halfway up the stairs, land full on his chest, and ride him to the ground with the hidden blade in his neck. That was freakin’ beautiful.

I didn’t much care for the Desmond plot, but I do recognize that something along those lines is necessary if they’re going to tie the next two (or more) games together in any way stronger than “the same general theme, separated by a couple centuries”. Without that outside structure to connect the characters, each game is an island, and I guess they wanted a grander plot, or something. So, not perfect, but I can see why they might want it. It’s lame, however, to make a “conversationalist” achievement connected to this plot; achievements ought to be for doing something difficult or useful, not for doing a bunch of talking.

The color palette bothered me some at first, but after looking at a few city vistas, I just thought, “you know, Damascus in 1191 probably was pretty much dingy and brown.” So, the limited color scheme didn’t bother me as much in this game as it does in some others.

There’s a dude on YouTube named “stabguy” who has a video on 12 ways to kill with the hidden blade, in case you get bored with the same old stab-and-run. It’s kinda amazing to see how well it can be used in combat.

Anyway, I’m a completist, so I finished the whole darn thing, 1000/1000. Those last few flags were a bitch. Got 1000/1000 on Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, too, if you need blueprints in the future. Not that mine are great or anything, but some are okay; got a couple of great racers, at least. Still working on the “Lost Challenges” expansion for that one.
