We already know several ways to help Ukraine. I’ll put a few at the bottom of this post in case you haven’t heard of them. But I’m interested in the odd and offbeat ways people have come up with to help Ukraine, or circumvent Russian censorship.
For example:
Signing up for Yelp and leaving restaurant reviews in Moscow saying “You’re being lied to by Putin, try the soup, 5 stars”
Personally, I’d like to see a “Just Say No” ad in Russian.
If someone tells you to do something that is evil and immoral, ignore them and go on with your life. If you are an officer, a policeman, or a soldier and someone tells you to punish someone for refusing to do something evil and immoral, ignore them and go on with your other duties.
Helping the unrighteous to spread their vanity and selfishness out to punish those who refuse to be slaves to evil purposes will never make you right with the world. You are only a good person when you do good, and there is never anyone else to blame but yourself.
Help your leaders when they ask good tasks of you. Trust that they misspoke when they ask you otherwise.
There has been a campaign to book hotel rooms in Ukraine online (thus paying them the fees, but not actually living there, of course.) Thus financially supporting Ukrainians.
Booking AirBnB’s, like I’ve seen a lot of people post about, seems like a terrible value for money to me.
AirBnB owners aren’t the worst off, on average
You’re making a significant contribution to a single individual you have little knowledge about
Though “I’ve lost the income from my AirBnB” might still be a big concern for many AirBnB owners in Ukraina, money, even if you distributed it to the most needy, is not what is most urgently needed right now.
So if you want to donate money, donate to large organizations that have the ability to purchase and send medical supplies and other emergency aid.
So there are kind of two forks to this discussion:
1- contacting individual Russians ( The guy who inspired the initial posts, who told me they were contacting Russians by catfishing on tinder now says he has apparently been banned or shadowbanned, I’m not sure of the terminology)
2- 1- helping individual Ukrainians ( as opposed to aid organizations, as mentioned in the original post, obviously a good thing to do ) - Same guy now says he’s “going to help Ukrainians on Onlyfans.”, by tipping generously.
