At least according to The National Association of Christian Lawmakers, a group that claims to represent Christian lawmakers.
They posted a yes/no poll asking “Do you believe America would be better off if more Christians served in elected office?”…and didn’t get quite the response they respected.
According to a Pew Poll nearly 90% of congresscritters identify as Christian, but a vastly overwhelming 95.8% of the more than 16,000 replies to the poll were “No”.
Why, the NACL sounds a bit salty!
Add one more for me.
What’s funny is that 16k people responded to a poll for a twitter page with 300 followers.
As a Christian, I’ve never been more proud of my Atheist and Satanist brothers and sisters.
(Golly, don’t those polled see how wonderful theocracies always turn out?)

That sounds like the kind of thing The Satanic Temple would be behind. Those guys are awesome.
Same here!
That sounds exactly like something the Satanic Temple would do. I’ve met Lucian Greaves and Michelle Shortt. They were lovely and I expressed appreciation for their advocacy.
Atheists and Satanists?
How about a little credit for the pagans and witches who responded. And the Jews who organized everything from the shadows.
It’s not just that they accused atheists and satanists of sabotaging the poll - they called it “religious persecution and anti-Christian bigotry”.
That’s right folks, disagreeing with them is persecution and bigotry.
Plenty of* Christians *would have answered “No” to a poll like that, since the general assumption would be that the real question is “Do you believe America would be better off if more *corrupt far right fanatics *served in elected office?” Not Christians in general.
This is after all a nation where Sunday School teacher Hillary Clinton gets labeled anti-Christian or Satanic, while Trump the living embodiment of the Seven Deadly Sins gets acclaimed as a literal Christian savior and instrument of God’s Will. People notice that kind of thing; in a context like this “Christian” is a* political* label, not a religious one.
US Constitution, Article VI: “…no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification for any Office of public Trust under the United States.”
NACL are slyly suggesting a religious test: Xians deserve votes more than do non-Xians. They probably wouldn’t include member of the Church of the Naked Christ. Attorneys among NACL should be disbarred. All should resign their offices for failing to support and defend the Constitution. So much oathbreaking, so little consequence…
I just voted no (92.4% no) and from looking at the comments plenty of Christians do disagree with them.
I called them anti-Semitic, since it appears Jews shouldn’t be elected either.
If 90% Christian isn’t enough, then I doubt a few more percent will help. Values seem maleable and even optional for those who call themselves Christian.
I still can’t get past that the Bible says nothing (negative) about abortion, yet it’s seen as the most important commandment by so many.
No, no, it’s atheists and Satanists expressing their opinions and disagreeing with evangelicals - that’s the persecution and bigotry. Why, next they’ll think they’ve got the same rights as decent God-fearin’ Christian folks!
From fed to lions, crucified, upside down even, to outvoted in a Twitter poll . . . Christian really have it bad these days.
CMC fnord!
…
I was deeply stirred by the call to action from NACL founder and Arkansas State Sen. Jason Rapert*.
“NUMBER OF WITCHES RISES DRAMATICALLY ACROSS U.S. AS MILLENNIALS REJECT CHRISTIANITY”
Some would say he’s just stirring the pot, but we need a new broom to sweep Satanists out of power, and break their spell on millennials.
*sort of an unfortunate name, but nevermind. He’s a pillar of the community, plus a mover and shaker.
**I’d consider becoming a founding member of the NACL, except for not being a Christian or a lawmaker, and besides they don’t have any good t-shirts.
Anybody who is on Twitter and pays attention to what goes on there could have predicted this.
But, you see, those aren’t True Christians™. They’re just atheists and Satanists who’ve gone deep undercover.
