Atlanta Doper Luncheon

For the beginning of this, see Rosebud’s thread.

I propose a lunch doper get-together on either the 29th or 30th of June. Sometime between 11AM and 1:30PM works for me. I think a location somewhere near the Atlanta Hyatt Regency will work, but I can work on narrowing that down as the time draws near. Depending on the location, there are a couple of nearby MARTA stations at North Avenue and at Peachtree Center.

So, chime in with day and time preferences, food preferences and if you can make it. Since it is during work time for me, I can’t attend for much longer than one hour, but it could still be fun.

Well, if it’s the 29th or 30th, I could probably make it. Looks like I’ll be back in town by then. I also work downtown. (Peachtree Center.)

I work at 5000 P’Tree Industrial Pkwy. That probably wouldn’t be too hard of a stretch.

If I could con my wife into it, we’d be in town for my cousins wedding the weekend of July 7-10. I dunno what she’s got planned, tho. So it probably won’t work. :frowning:

Hi guys! Mullinator, thank you for reviving the topic!

Me, I’m free both days in that I have no definite plans yet

Near the Regency is good for me, and I may be able to talk my non-Doper friends Kat and Steve into joining me. More the merrier, and maybe we can convert them. How’s noon sound?

I’m always up for a good conversion. I’ll bring the candles, holy scroll (The first Dope book), and the ritual can begin. I’ll look into a place around the area that we can take over and will keep this thread up to date, which may mean significant bumping of the thread.

Anyone that wants to is welcome to join in, although our Eurodopers may have a tough time making it with the travel time and all.

Friday is better for me (Friday is business casual). As long as it is close to the Marta station, I am fine. I am not sure what eating establishments are in the area, but a sandwhich shop might be the best.

It would be easier for me to make it if we say Noon. It is is a good 20 minute ride from where I am to downtown, so if I leave at 11:30 I should be able to make it no problem.

Jeffery

Hah, every day is business casual in these parts. I’ll definitely try to do it in a non-stuffy place with enough room to accomodate us and enough activity to keep us from being kicked out or anything. Also, once this gets a little more firmed up, we will need someone to do the notetaking, etc. I would, but my handwriting sucks and I am not a big fan of being the notetaker.

My handwritting is terrible as well. So since females always have good handwritting, I nominate Rosebud.

Don’t rub it in that you are business casual at all times, at least I do not have to go downtown everyday.

Jeffery

Me either. That telecommuting is a wonder, just way too infrequent.

What makes you think I’m female

Actually, though I’ll admit to being a girl, I have the worst handwriting on the Eastern Seaboard. I’ll give it a shot if you like, but I can’t guarantee legibility!

Funny thing is, I’m sitting here at work right now trying to make sense out of a set of meeting notes I took. I wrote 'em, but I don’t know what they say…

I could make either day, Mullinator, but the 30th is better, since I’ve already got that day off of work. Anywhere close to Marta is fine, as I live and work well outside the perimeter (exit 12 on GA400). (BTW, that was “work well outside the perimeter”, not “work well outside the perimeter.”)

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Seems the 30th is gaining in popularity. It works for me, too.

xenophon, I think you’ve coined a phrase that will hopefully supplant the much despised (by me) “think outside the box:”

“Gosh, that xenophon41 works well outside the perimeter!”

Ok, that was lame, and I’m deeply sorry… tee hee…

Hey, with a little effort we could make that phrase just as overworked as the “box” thing. All it would take is a proactive approach. I’m sure if we practice some teaming, we can optimize the productivity of this new expression…
<Yechh! Sorry!>

OK, the 30th at noon is a go. There is no place set yet, so just show up at a restaurant and see if anyone else does.

Actually, I’ll work on coming up with something that sounds good. If anyone has any major food dislike issues, let me know. I would hate to have everyone meet at a place with some great baby seal BBQ only to find out that you all prefer the taste of baked unicorn instead.

Potential attendees so far are:
Mullinator
Rosebud
StrTrkr777
Enright3
xenophon41

Everyone else is invited, so feel free to join the fun.

xenophon, you clearly indulged in some brainstorming and it’s good to see someone pushing the envelope that way. All we need to do now is troubleshoot the-- Ouch! I can’t keep this up, my brain is trying to crawl out through my ears in protest.

Mullinator-- my only food issue is that I’m a vegetarian, but I have been for quite a while and had no trouble eating at area restaurants last time I stayed at the Hyatt. Pretty much every place has some meat & fish free option, so I’m not all that concerned. I’m sure even the Baby Seal BBQ Palace has some lovely kelp side dishes.

(Just to make sure more Atlanta area Dopers see this.)

Good call Xeno. I am still picking a gathering place, but I will be sure to keep you all informed.

I wish I could be of more help with this-- how’s this: last time I was there, there was a Mexican place right near the hotel, also a pretty good Italian one. There’s also (or there was) a “Le Peep” cafe but I think they’re only open for breakfast and brunch/lunch, not sure when they close daily.

See y’all there (note pathetic attempt at Southern drawl)!

Mexican or Italian work for me, but what ever.
