Uh…no?
You’re a little late. Can’t be late about these things. Carpe boobum.
I know…but apparently a couple of the wires up by the telephone pole got fused together and it took SBC 3 days to fix it (they apparently put up brand new wiring on this block and the next one over. Whatever we broke, we did it good).
Wouldn’t that be carpe bosom?
Those who want to help me on Saturday, the plan is at this point “morning” to avoid it being quite so very hot (though I should be thankful–recent temps in my hometown have been in the ballpark of 111). I still don’t have an exact time. If you send me a PM or an email I will send you my address, which is easily navigable via Google Maps.
So, what kind of stuff are we moving? I hope you don’t have a sleeper sofa; those things are a pain in the ass to carry.
Unfortunately I do have a sleeper sofa
There will be other people to help, though.
The biggest pain in the ass stuff is going to be my son’s bunk bed and my two dressers. I have a ton of books but they’re in small boxes and they’re all stacked by the front door for the shortest carrying distance.
Once we’ve moved the grand piano, the double set of free weights, the safe filled with commemorative lead medallions, and the grouchy Grandma in her rocker, you’ll think nothing of moving that sleeper sofa too.
Bunk beds come apart. Dressers should be emptied (or you can leave the clothes in the drawers and remove the drawers with the clothes in them). Empty dressers are the easiest things to move. Lots of places to grab them.
Remember to hide all your personal dohickeys so some Doper doesn’t come across your wand of pleasure.
Did I say, “come across”?
The bunkbed is a combination bunk bed/trundle bed/dresser/desk/closet. That’s why I say it will be a pain in the ass. Yes, it comes apart, but I don’t know how easily, and it’s still massive. The dressers are a pain only because my staircase has a turn in it so it’s a tight fit. This is also going to make the bunk bed thing more of a pain.
Ah, I’ve got one of those also. There is no damn way that our bedding unit will get moved out of the house without it coming completely apart. You may want to consider this way before Saturday rolls around. We can’t even get ours out of the room it’s in without substantial deconstruction.
Who assembled the bed/was it assembled in the room? I think you’ll need to have it taken apart especially if a dresser might cause the movers trouble. This thing will be a real treat.
I can’t disassemble it myself, and my boyfriend doesn’t get in from Ohio until later this evening. Three of us put it together, in the room. It is modular though, so I’m hoping that it can be taken apart in chunks.
We’re looking at getting really underway by 10am.
May I barge back in to make a suggestion? When you pick up the truck, ask about renting a couple of utility dollys. I think they’re only like $10 bucks each, and they make it much easier to haul stacks of stuff.
I’ll be there! Maybe not as early as 10, but definitely between 10 and 11.
Good luck with the move. Lift with your legs, stay hydrated, and all that.
We always do. Wouldn’t dream of trying to move without them.
And off she goes. I wasn’t able to help very much or very long, but she had a big crew on hand. I hope the drive north is swift and uneventful.
I could only stay an hour, but was glad to find Dan and Dan’s Dad there, very ably loading the furniture. It was nice to meet OpalCat and local girl Fiver.
The forecast for Cleveland today is for a high of 75F; not bad.
Lucky bastards. I just ran 8 miles in 90 degree heat. My legs are now glazed with salt left behind by the quarts of sweat that escaped me.
Massive thank-yous to Fiver and Baldwin for sweating in the heat (man was it yucky) helping me out on Saturday. I owe ya. Karma owes ya too.
We made it to Cleveland eventually, though various traffic delays meant it was about a 15 hour drive. Ew. I will post more soon, but we don’t have net access at the house yet and we’re only dropping by Dan’s apartment picking up some stuff out of his fridge for the new house, so I can’t stay online at the moment.
Huge thanks once again. It means a lot to me.
