Yeah, the words that no friend wants to hear: “hey, can you help me move?”
I am renting a UHaul on Saturday to move from my apartment into my house. I need to move stuff down one flight of stairs at the apartment, but only some stuff is going up any stairs at the house. I can bribe with pizza, beer, soda, candy, whatever.
I know Bill said he could help in the afternoon, and another friend of mine is coming late morning to mid afternoon… any dopers in the area want to come join in the fun and excitement? hopeful
The apartment and truck-loading is in Marietta, right off of I-75 (at the south 120 loop). The house and truck un-loading is in Acworth, also right off I-75 (at Wade Green). Help is needed at either or both ends.
Are those crickets I hear?
As someone who remembers you from the AOL Days, I’ll jump on this thread to say… I’m out of town on Saturday. If you need help on Sunday, I’ll donate a few hours of my time.

OpalCat, I’d do it just for the bragging rights to have met you in person, except I’m committed to family stuff Thursday, Friday and Saturday and I’ll need some time for myself .
I just did a long move from Ohio to Stone Mountain a couple months back, and I’m still not completely unpacked yet, so I can imagine the “fun” you must be having. Good luck and here’s hoping you have clear skies and lotsa help when you move.

Anyone who really loves the torture of unpacking after a move is welcome to come help with that anytime AFTER Saturday (for those of you who mentioned “Sunday” or “later”…). Heh. Especially good for those who are tickled to death at the prospect of putting millions of books in alphabetical order. Ohhhhh joy.
I finally got internet access at home on Friday night. Yay! I’m still moving… had about 5 people helping and we got the vast majority of stuff moved that Saturday, but I’ve been ferrying remaining crap to the house in my van nearly every day. How did I get so much crap???
And thank god for generous friends… I never could have done that without help!!!
Fortunately I work at a place that has a crew whose job it is to move furniture. The crew is comosed of young naive undergrads who don’t realize how much they could be getting paid for doing the same thing at a real moving company. I paid 'em what they get paid for working normally (8 bucks/hour) and supplied donuts. I’ve never seen anyone work so hard! I kinda felt like I was screwing them over, so I tipped big. It was still waaay cheaper than professional movers.
