I’m sure Vader and the Emporer realized who Luke was as soon as they watched the Galactic News Network coverage of the terrorist attack on the Empire’s space station. I’m sure the identity of the hotshot kid from Tatooine who fired the fatal shot was common knowledge.
The Empire spends the ensuing time between ANH and ESB hunting down the Rebels from planet to planet. Vader isn’t sent on the Luke trail by the Emporer until after the Hoth battle. As you recall, Vader has more concerned about recapturing the Millennium Falcon than finding Luke after they breached the Hoth base.

Another thing that bothered me, but I sorted it out:
Threepio is living on the Lars farm, okay?
So is Owen, as a young man in his 20s.
Yet, years later, he buys the same protocol droid, without recognizing him.
HOWEVER…if you look at other scenes, you’ll see that most droids DO look a like-for example, in the opening scenes of ANH, you see another Threepio, only he’s silver.
Also, on Hoth, Threepio sees a duplicate Threepio, who tells him to piss off or something like that.
And also, there’s another silver Threepio lookalike on Bespin. And another in the first scene of TPM.
I liken it to if someone wiped the memory of a computer I own and then somehow I wind up buying it again 20 years later. I doubt I’d remember that I’d owned it before. Specially if I used 5 or 6 computers at a time on my farm :).

I was pointing out even more lookalike droids. And drawing a real world analogy.
And I didn’t come off looking stupid! Not at all!!
Was Jengo’s head really so well fit into his helmet that it didn’t fall out after bouncing and being picked up by his son?
