Attention Outlander fans!

From the news page of Diana Gabaldon official website, the next book will be called A Breath of Snow and Ashes. No release date.

BUT!

In November, a sideline book featuring Lord John Grey will be out!

I’m not the only Jamie and Clair fan here, am I?

Am I?

No, you’re not. I’m a big fan, too.

Incidentally, the sideline you mention will be the second Lord John Grey book. I believe the first one was only made available as an audiobook, but I was going to look into that At any rate, the John Grey stories are mysteries, and have little to nothing to do with Jamie & Claire.

I’ve been getting antsy for the next Outlander bok since The Fiery Cross, which was fun to read, but disappointing in a lot of ways. Am I the only Claire and Jamie fan who thinks Roger is a self-centered, slightly dull and all-around foolish git?

I’m a huge fan. I’m excited about the Lord John Grey series. He was one of my favorite characters in the Outlander series.
Now, if only she’d come up with a series on Master Raymond…

I am a new Outlander fan. I read the first book last month and have not yet bought the next book in the series but I am looking forward to it (Dragonfly in Amber, right?).

If I may slightly hi-jack: Which is your favorite book in the series?

The books in order are:

Outlander
Dragonfly In Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
Fiery Cross

My personal favorite? Well, it’s a toss-up between Outlander and Dragonfly (so far, anyway.) Dragonfly is slightly in the lead these days just because I’ve gotten interested in herbs.

Greywolf73: I’ve heard rumors that Maitre Raymond will be back. And in her Outlandish Companion, Diana Gabaldon hints that he, too, may be a traveler!

Although I loved Outlander and a Dragonfly in Amber, I was so terribly disappointed in the recent book that I won’t be rushing to buy the latest book, she’s definitely a “check out of the library” author now.

Count me in as a fan, too. I’ve only read the first two so far (Outlander was called Cross-stich here in Australia, for some reason), but I have the third one waiting to be read.

I’ve seen the companion book at my library - is it worth checking out?

Glory - yeah, even I have to admit that Fiery Cross was not Gabaldon’s best effort. Although there were some priceless moments. What was up with that first endless day? I’m not kidding folks - the narrative starts just before dawn and ends some ELEVEN chapters later that night.

stringy - the first book is indeed called Cross Stitch outside the US. The companion is full of all kinds of stuff, both interesting and not-so-interesting. I really like the Errata chapter, in which Gabaldon explains and corrects her own errors. I’d say check it out, if only for that chapter.

From what I understand, Fiery Cross was supposed to be the last one, but it was so long and involved it got split into two. Then, Herself has decided to write about the American Revolution, so there will be two more books. Yippee!!

FC did get off to a slow start, but I consider it a set-up book for the later ones.

Now if you want to talk about disappointments, I can start a thread about Jean Auel and Shelters of Stone

I really enjoyed all of the books right up until Fiery Cross which was epically dull. I was especially disappointed by that since I bought the first four all in mass market paper, and then spent a good bit of money to buy FC in trade paper so I didn’t have to wait for it. I’d have probably enjoyed it more if I didn’t spend half the book thinking, ‘My god, I paid 28 dollars for this?’

I will grant the beginning of FC was slow, but those last 100 pages…wow. If it was supposed to be the last book, then I can only hope what the next book is supposed to be like.

My favorites…a toss up between Dragonfly and Voyager.
