ATTN: Nerdy White Guy bands

Exactly. Neither is played on Top 40 radio, at least around here, and I’m assuming Derleth has probably only heard the mega-selling hip hop acts.

Oh, for crying out loud. Did you two miss the sentence where I compared it to folk music? I’m not saying the genre is a fad, I’m saying it’s going through a phase where the trendoids have latched on to it. It had a period of time before this phase (the Sugar Hill Gang’s first album springs to mind) and, hopefully, it will have another period of obscurity after this one. Just like folk music.

I dunno, I once heard people refer to tattoos as a fad, when people have been wearing them for at least 5,300 years.

Hmmm. I have a recording of them doing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on the accordian, but I can’t find any rap covers in my collection.

Just so nobody reads more into what I OPed than what I meant, I have nothing against white rappers, black rappers, yellow, green or blue rappers. It’s the nerdy white guys who do covers of Boyz in Da Hood type material that comprise slappin’ the hos, Hoodlums in Da Hit Parade, Sine Yo Piddy on a Rine Sepadine, etc as a joke to demonstrate how far removed from the streets they can possibly be. It’s like Weird Al Yankovic covering Slayer on his accordion. Yes, it’s funny at first, but the joke gets old after the first 500 times, so it’s time to jump off the one-trick pony and do something new to establish your identity.

I’m sick of nerdy white guy bands and tired of rap as independent variables.

I’m def! (early TMBG)

Wow, that was a long time ago.

::swoon:: She loves me! ::faints::

:smiley:

And how dare TMBG teach anything.

They’re singers, not edumacators! :mad:

I do enjoy TMBG lyrics. Some of them are brilliant, in league with David Byrnes and Elvis Costello (the ubernerds of alt pop). However, their singing style and instrumentation get old fast. They are much better than the other nerd bands, like Bare Naked Ladies, who are not even interesting lyrically.

Don’t these boys realize the way to get laid is to learn to play heavy riffs??? Come on, bring metal back into the mainstream. Kids, grow your hair long, smoke some weed, and listen to Black Sabbath. Screw this emo bullshit. Lemmy should be your hero. :smiley:

And then your dad can say this to you:

Haha.

Speaking of rap covers that get old… how about those rap “covers” of rock and oldies songs that keep nothing intact but the chorus? Either get it right or make up your own damn song, morons.

I love it when everyone fucking agrees with me. :smiley:
