Woah…I mean…yeah, riiiight. Popping work units out like a bunny pops pellets, eh? Well, I’ll just grab me a couple more departmental 486’s and maybe one of them fancy Pentium 60s and then watch me fly!
Eat my stardust, Number 5!

ahhhh…Now that feels much better…My Doper name is now the same as my Seti name…Thanks to C K Dexter Haven…
PS…But we still need more members…
Ok, you can call me sad…but I check it to see if I’ve moved up, and I have!
So my lofty aspirations of being in the top 80 have been realized.
Plus, I’ve noticed we get a few more people joining whenever this is bumped.
I just joined up, and this thread prompted me to download the client to my work computer.
I’m lisacurl on SETI. Come to think of it, I should email a mod and ask nicely to have my user name changed here.
My aspirations are to be outside the top 50 but that would mean a lot more members…
I’ve also noticed the trend that’s why I’ve waited until now to post a reply I had seen your post earlier but the thread was still at the top of the page.
Welcome Amanita glad to have you aboard.
I’ve noticed also that only 48 members have completed work units so far this year…
[mock annoyance]*STAMPING FEET[/mock annoyance] what the hells going on…
We are not alone.
Although I am starting to notice that our tactic is becoming less and less effective…
BUT WE STILL NEED MORE PEOPLE…
The Straight Dopers SETI@HOME team Needs YOU…
I’ve joined, also. I used to use SETI@home so I already have about 100 units, too.
Welcome aboard fluiddruid…
As for everyone else NOT involved just stop and think and then ask yourselves, not what your SETI@HOME team can do for you but rather what can you do to help your SETI@HOME team…
We’re almost at a 100 people.
Well 98 members at the time of this posting anyway but we’re getting there…
Factoid:
Only counting users who have posted results this year ie. active users
SDMB results returned 64466
alt.fans results returned 60619
Which puts us ahead as far as active users go.
Overall so far:
alt.fans 88409 RR
SDMB 87830 RR
So we’re only 579 units behind.
As for the interest in post-BOINC togetherness of course I totally support it, it’s just this is a different race this is pre-BOINC.
Come on now that we have finally over come the forces of the dark side and have passed the alt.fan.cecil-adams team at long last. Ok so I was only part of the team for about two week but hell I’ve been processing for three years so I feel Ok…
Now are we all ready for a crack at the number one spot over all…???
Got three machines secretly running now. But only during office hours.
I joined as well. I think I was the 100th. I’ve only been running SETI for a few weeks (16 units), but I’m planning to switch over to the command line interface soon so I can make a better contribution.
Welcome to all the new members! This had become somewhat boring during the last few months, glad to see some fresh blood!
Since there’s been a lot of activity here I thought I’d post this. I’ve tried all the clients and all the combos and whatnot but I’ve found that my best performance is realized using just the plain SETI command line client in addition to SETIBuf, which will assure your computer is never sitting idle while the SETI servers go down (which they do a lot). I do not use SETILog, BTW. I have it set up to run from the startup folder for when I restart (so I don’t have to type the annoying command line “C:\SETI\SETI.bat Cmd-1” each time.) You can run it in the background, but I just leave the little CMD window open in the taskbar so I can look at it every now and again to see if I need to force it to the next WU.
My Average CPU time per work unit is ~3.27 hours.
I just set up the command line client as a service on two computers at work. I’m interested to see how it performs compared to the SETI Driver which is what I was using before… and what I still use at home, on my fastest PC.
Interestingly, it didn’t create much slowdown at all running as a service (which is what you’d expect). So much for System Idle Task.
i have a couple of questions.
sometimes it seems like I am automatically logged out. Do I have to log in everytime? I don’t turn my computer off.
Second question: I have 3 computers set up with SETI, but it doesn’t seem to be reflecting the amount of all three computers (units read).
Example:
Comp 1 has 30
Comp 2 has 34
Comp 3 has 33
But the Units Read on the chart says I have 33. Does it average it out or am I doing something wrong?
On a whim, I dropped my SETI@home membership in another group and signed up for this one. Seemed like the right thing to do. I bring 500-some units into the group.
See ya around.
What a time for a bump, hey LolaBaby seems like you have all three setup as individual users? Do all three show the same user name?
Now that we have surpassed the dark side it would appear as though we have given up the chase? It seemed to me we’d gained approximately 15 new members in less than two weeks. We should be able to pull together and possibly move further up the lists. Is it possible for us to make the top 200 groups list?
