Cool…I never saw this thread before. I just joined the group (as jools_78, since that’s the name SETI@home has for me) and brought in my 187 units. It’s not much compared to a lot of you guys, but every bit helps right?

We’re within 80% of the enemy…uh, of our good friends and fellow ignorance fighters in the alt.fan.cecil-adams group.
Yeah, count me in…just 289 units but hey, I been sick. How sick? Well it took 7318 hr. 49 min and 1.04 sec to get that far.
Yeehaaaa… The wife’s new laptop is knocking them over at just under three hours with the screen saver version. P4 3.2G Toshiba Satelite with 1G Ram, well with that and my four older machines together should get them done a little quicker so I’ll jump in as well.
But I really gotta ask why have we only got 85 members in on this thing, we should be looking for first place overall.
I’m currently in the alt.fan.cecil-adams group. Soon the BOINC SETI incarnation will be out, which will effecitvely clear work units. I think we should all band together when that time arrives. Can’t we all be friends? 
I had it on another computer, but my old man changes computers so often (he’s a gamer).

This is a slight hijack, but last year I was doing an install at a customer site. Two Sun Fire 15000 platforms fully loaded with about a month between installation and go-live.
The local administrator was going to burn them in by running SETI packets.
Two servers with 72 900MHz UltraSparc III processors and 144GB Memory running packets for a month. Unfortunately, I moved on to the next project before I could see any results. I’m sure they were spectacular, though.
sigh.
Well, I’ll be with **Demo ** and join a Doper BOINC group at the change-over. I haven’t followed the afca much since Rutgers gave up on the news server.
OK, I just joined with my 290 units, even though the team page doesn’t admit it yet
I don’t run it all the time, so it takes a while for me to get through a unit, but it also doesn’t sit idle for too long either.

sorry, i’m not as computer literate as some of you but here goes:
if i have two other computers in the house, other than this one, can i set those up under my same account? and will it read different sections of data and add it all to my account?

Basically yes, the first time you run the program after installation it will ask you if you are a new user or returning user. Select returning user type in the email address and start adding up the work units. Of course each computer will have to have access to the internet to get new work units but it will all count towards the one total.
On top of that if you join the group as well then you’ll be helping out with the total here also.

I just wish it was faster. One of them seems to be much much faster than the others. I saw the links to make them faster but I like the pretty colors.
Besides, it’s not like I could be in contention for anywhere in the top 80.

Well, I see we’ve crashed on past the century mark for total CPU time. And are closing on 90,000 total units processed.
In the interests of post-BOINC togetherness I will refrain from whipping everybody up into a competitive frenzy over the fact that we’ve closed to within less than 2,500 units from our fraternal AFCA comrades (and are now at over 97% of their total).
Although they started it.
I’d say seeing how far we’ve managed in the last few days, we should stir the beehive and see how well we can do on the overall lists. There are supposedly around 7000 of us Dopers and less than 100 running Seti@home…??
Besides that and we’d really beat the sh!t out of the UselessNet guys and girls…

I just changed my Seti profile name to Legion, but don’t know when that will be reflected on our group stats page.
