August Londope -- plan now, and avoid the rush

ianzin is right about the gatwick express - its a complete pain in the arse. Luton to London via train is relatively painless, but i couldn’t tell you what the connection between Luton Airport and Luton station is like.

I don’t have the map to hand, but airport to station is actually walking distance, except that there’s no pavement on the ring-road. If you do want to walk from the airport, you need to walk down the hill, over the roundabout, past the Vauxhall factory towards the centre of Luton a bit, then over the railway and back out. There’s probably a back route I haven’t spotted yet.

Take the bus.

isn’t there a luton airport parkway station on the thameslink?

Looks like trains run from Luton Airport Parkway to either Kings Cross or St Pancras every ten minutes or so. See www.railnetwork.co.uk for exact times.

I was mistaken. There is a path, so you can walk.

I found this interesting story yesterday. We might be able to rig up a live webcast of the dopefest!

wear your best knickers, Angua

The frilly ones or the lacy ones?

Decisions decisions…

but who gets lumbered with having to bring their laptop?

Eh, anytime, anywhere, just let me know, my liver is usually in some bloody Bermuda parallelogram between Charing Cross, Temple, Holborn and Camden Town anyway. Unless I’ve been sent to the arse-end of Tediumshire by work, which isn’t unusual.

Easiest way to London from Luton is Thameslink. If Whitehall is the venue, stay on it to Blackfriars and change onto westbound Circle or District line to Embankment, then ask for directions. Don’t get off at King’s Cross, it’s a drug-riddled shithole wasteland.

From Heathrow the tube is a few quid (£4? £5? Dunno really) where the Heathrow Express is £12, but that’s three times quicker and much more comfortable. I can look into Gatwick and Stansted if anyone needs.

Anyone wants directions to London from Heathrow/Gatwick/Luton/Stansted/mainline stations or any other London stuff (other than where to stay, I wouldn’t have a bloody clue), email me or bell me on the mobile (see CV on fervent.co.uk). Doubt I’ll be posting here much, so that’s the best way to reach me.

Hiya, Crusoe, long time no see!

Crusoe is right about the tube from Heathrow - i used to live in Hounslow about two stops down. its one of the nicer tube lines.

Sorry. I meant that the Express was quicker and more comfortable. Nothing wrong with the tube unless you’re in a hurry or like the comfy life.

PS hi Anahita, hope you’re well

I see that it’s a little late to weigh in on the airport debate. I’ll only concur that Gatwick is a lot further out than you think and Luton is probably closer than you think. And the Thameslink service that goes through Luton into the heart of town is one of the few good train services we still have in this country.

I’d be tempted by the Luton option. The only thing is if you’re staying at Frannies’ place you might find that Luton is a bit far away. What do you think oh Fran O’Fran?

She’s in Greece for two weeks!!

Lucky girl.

Just popping in to say that I’ve had to move my travel plans back to November, so I won’t be able to make this get-together. Still would like to meet you all, though. Hopefully, at least a few of you will be sufficiently recovered after the interveneing two months for another DopeFest. I’ll start a new thread a couple of months before hand so we can hammer it all out.

Drink a few pints for me, and God willing, I’ll see you in the Fall.

Hey there, I used to be QueenAl, but I’ve been dethroned.

(Well, my computer died taking my stored passwords with it, so I had to re-register, and decided to use the name I more often use online these days).

This thread has been rather amusing to read - I look forward to more of the same on the 23rd! I should be able to join you all for rounders and the pub (I don’t actually like shopping! :O) as long as I’m welcome.

of course you’re welcome!

as long as you pay me the one-off admission fee.

Al! we were wondering what had happened to you! Looking forward to seeing you!
