I’ve started a beer fest thread here
I’m guessing you won’t be showing off your cleavage-pint glass trick, then.
Sounds like a good plan
Afraid not, and no low cut tops either…
good god woman! how will you cope???
With difficulty
If you need lodging advice, ask Tansu. If you want to know where Frannie, myself and Curlychick are staying, email me at anahita444 at hotmail dot com.
Anyone know of a good Persian restaurant in London? I’m dying for some. Maybe a Friday evening event?
This place sounds good. Is it near where we’re staying in King’s Cross?
http://www.london-eating.co.uk/215.htm
or this one?
We went to Mish-Mash on Goodge Street last time I was in London - its Persian/Middle Eastern, and very very nice, as well as being rather reasonable…
I think you mean Dish-Dash.
That’s the one. My memory gets a bit hazy, expecially as that was one fantastic evening
Is that near King’s Cross at all?
(I have no idea about the London Tube map but it scares me! And that’s saying a lot coming from someone who rode the Tokyo subways and trains for 5 years!)
My brain has also obviously given up in the heat
Er, pass. I thinks its moderately close to Euston however, since we walked there from the Institute of Physics (Portland Place), and you could walk from Euston to the IoP…
Just been scanning the thread, and it looks like everything is still planned for August 23rd, is that right? Can anyone remind me what the venue is again? I’m really looking forward to finally meeting my first real-live dopers! Whoo-Hoo!
Yes Annie - after a few beers it’ll be about a 15/20 minute walk to the hotel from Goodge Street. I know the area well
The Silver Cross, at the Trafalgar Square end of Whitehall. Probably downstairs, like last time. Meeting time TBC.
Just confirming that Twisty and I will be there, and before you start, yes, we will have a room…
The only Persian restaurant I know well is Yas, between Kensington and Hammersmith (opposite Kensington Olympia tube, also easy with lovely number 10 bus). There’s another branch by the north side of Hyde Park. Unfortunately their website yasrestaurant.com is down for redevelopment at the moment. Food v good (but what do I know? also has v good reviews).
by the way, I don’t mean to set myself up as some kind of london hotel knowitall - just sharing what I’ve found through trial and error sorting out accomodation for myself at Dopefests, Unafests and Brunchmeets/mini-Geralds (don’t ask).
Dish Dash does nice food but gets busy fast (needs booking) and lately has turned into a bit of a thumping-music-and-overpriced-cocktails type of bar.
There’s a decent tapas place near Goodge Street. Lots of good curry houses round the back of Euston too (it’s a bit like Brick Lane’s backup).
I would recommend everyone checks the train company websites; there’s some major disruptions due around August to November (Thameslink out of action at Kings Cross due to the Channel Tunnel work, services from Euston disrupted during September due to work on the line to Milton Keynes/Northampton).
Drummond Street! I used to live on Drummond Street. I miss living there.
I used to work just off there. Still remember those curries…
re trains - Midland Mainline run a service from Manchester to St Pancras to fill in for the disrupted Virgin West Coast Main Line trains (route joins up with Leicester - Bedford - Luton Airport - St Pancras route, fares are TEH CHEAP). I dunno if anyone other than me comes from the north west region, so I could easily be talking to myself here.
