Austin Powers Goldmember (spoilers)

No spoilers yet. Spoilers will be in a later section

I went to see a sneak preview of this movie with some friends last night. Overall I was pleased. The movie still maintained the infantile fart/peepee humor but displayed it in a nice fresh way.

Most of the movie the entire audience was laughing. There were maybe 2 or 3 small stretches of maybe ten minutes where the gags kept rolling but simply weren’t funny.

The overuse of product placements didn’t actually seem to get in the way too much. I don’t know how many there were but I caught: Preparation H (well duh), Subway, Starbucks, and Pepsi. I remember that there were others I just can’t think of them now.

There were also many cameos. Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, Danny DeVito, Brittany Spears (I think it was her, all those bubblegum pop girls look like clones to me), and many others.

 :o :o :o Spoilers now :o :o :o

The funniest part to me was the pee scene. Particularly the part of the scene where Austin knocked out the Japanese henchman and looked like he was peeing in his mouth on the video camera. That whole scene was hilarious.

The reuse of the previous penis gag where they use a lot of slang terms for penises (and boobs in this case) wasn’t too overdone. It started to get old and then they just ended it.

The movie within the movie’s heroine’s name was very funny. Won’t say what it is here though. Go see the movie.

Beware of the particularly gross scene where Goldmember starts eating his flaking skin. That was just sick. I heard some people in the theater start gagging at that.

I was disappointed. The funny scenes were hilarious, but there weren’t nearly enough of them, and the non-funny scenes were not funny because they were trying too hard (the entire prison scene, every scene with Goldmember, the big revelation at the end).

Actually, every scene with Fred Savage was hysterical. The product placement still bugged me (you forgot Heineken and Taco Bell) - it was just a little too obvious.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the product placement. It didn’t seem to bother me though. It just was enough to make me realize it wasthere.

I agree with the Fred Savage scenes. “Yes, I realize I have a huge mole on my face.”

I liked Fred Savage in the movie, and it was a funny joke point. Spoilers The absolute funniest moment in the whole film was the Mini-Me birthing shadow gag. Oh My God, I almost peed myself I laughed so hard. Funniest moment in any Austin movie yet.

You guys forgot the BEST part of the movie! Austin and his dad started speaking “English” English in front of the American girls. I’m an American, but I understood most of what they were saying. It was just simply fuckin hilarious. I had to hold myself back from laughing to hard so people in the theatre wouldn’t stare. Holy shit. That is the best scene ever. Damn… but yeah, they did try too hard sometimes, expecially in the beginning…
