Today every thread page has had a loud advertisement auto-playing the moment I open the page. This may be okay with the powers that be but I note it here in case it is not.
Is it the ad from BMO Harris or are other people getting different ads?
Yep, all BMO. I opened five threads simultaneously this morning, and got a cacophony of “Beemo” ads… at full volume, before anyone else was awake.
Hey, guys, some of us like our work surfing to go unnoticed!!
I don’t know if it’s still the case, but Ed has said they are supposed to be using the ad plan that doesn’t allow such ads. You’re supposed to have to interact with an ad before it can play sound.
Today for the first time on these boards (that I have personally noticed) ads have popped up with audio content. I could find no way to disable the ad or turn off the audio, which plays over the top of the background music I have on.
So I am pitting SDMB for allowing this, but deep down I’ll settle for a way to disable it (the audio, not the Boards).
All complaints about the boards go in ATMB, so I’ve moved this into an already existing thread that is there.
For either Chrome or Firefox, try AdBlock Plus, Flash Block and ScriptBlock. I get no ads or pop-over or pop-under ads, and certainly no music.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
As God is my witness, I will never do any business with BMO Harris Bank.
Turn off your speakers?
Some of us need speakers for our work.
But then you don’t hear the notification when you get an email or an IM, or when the phone rings. Yes we have #$%^& softphones.

When I wander around the web on my Android tablet I nearly lose my mind with all the ads. I heard through the grapevine that there is adblock for android so I guess I need to investigate it.
For those of you who see ads, how can you stand to navigate other websites? Even my ISP’s home page has noisy blinking ads if I don;t block them. It can’t be just SDMB that bothers you, surely?
It’s a combination of wanting the pages I frequent to get their revenue, and not tending to frequent pages with intrusive ads.
This BMO Harris thing is getting to be pretty nuts, though. It makes it impossible to surf while watching a movie for example.
Then perhaps mute the browser? On Windows, it’s pretty easy, click tbe volume control, and then click “mixer.”
And, if you need to use your browser for your work, maybe load the Dope in a separate instance–assuming they’ll let you.
If you want pages to get revenue, then become a member of SDMB.
Intrusive audio first noticed on Saturday. Still playing on Monday.
Bye bye, boards.
You could maybe wait till after labor day at least?
As Day 5 of the BMO Harris Campaign of Annoyance dawns, I wonder how much they must be paying to have their annoying ad in every single thread and why they chose this board of all of the boards on all of the interwebs.
