"Autofill not available for this page" (Firefox Google toolbar)

When I first started using the Google toolbar I loved the AutoFill feature. But now nearly every web site generates the message shown in the subject.

Is my toolbar broken, or is it just that most web sites are now using technologies to fill in forms that have outpaced the AutoFill concept?

Google Toolbar has been discontinued, and is no longer being updated. It’s not available for versions of Firefox above 4.0 (current release version of Firefox is 9.0).

Though I can’t say for sure, I imagine it’s related to that.

What did the Google Toolbar Autofill do that Firefox itself doen’t do now?
My Firefox (9.0.1) will automatically fill in lots of fields on web pages for me.

I am using FF 9.0.1. It looks like the autofill feature will remember what I entered when I return to the same page. But Google AutoFill allows me to enter name, address, etc., and apply that data to *any *page that has form fields similarly labeled and automatically fills in all the fields. I don’t see anything built in to FF that does that. I found an add-on that does the same thing but isn’t as elegant.

Also, Google Toolbar allows me to do Google searches and specify images, news, only current site, Google Scholar, all with a single click. But that all still works.

Huh.

One of the latest Firefox add-ons I’ve installed is Google Disconnect, which prevents Google from doing all that stuff (and simultaneously recording it all about me). I’d prefer that Google NOT accumulate everything about me, and sell it to any bidder. I hope to retain some privacy. But your views may differ.
