I enjoyed it quite a bit, as much as I enjoyed Return of the Jedi before they replaced the Lugnuts song with Hayden Christiansen. So please, even if you absolutely hated this movie, don’t piss on my florescent fruit Toasties.
So now for my questions:
Was the big cat/raptor thing related to the little Resident Evil dogs?
Is there a reason besides ‘it would really mess up the plot’ why Crazy ScarFace Colonel didn’t dispatch troops to guard the Avatar Pod RVs after Michelle Rodriguez busted the dreamwalkers out of jail?
Did each tribe have their own Tree of Souls like they had their own Tree of Life?
He pointed to it when telling his men how dangerous it is out there. I guess a Navi gave it to him…or an animal. Also, he said he’d rather keep it because it reminds him of the danger.
I just saw it for the first time this week. I’m glad I waited until all the hoopla died down, because I can fairly judge it this way. My judgement was: Awesome.
As for your questions:
1) Was the big cat/raptor thing related to the little Resident Evil dogs?
Doubt it. Different universes.
2) Is there a reason besides ‘it would really mess up the plot’ why Crazy ScarFace Colonel didn’t dispatch troops to guard the Avatar Pod RVs after Michelle Rodriguez busted the dreamwalkers out of jail?
He probably didn’t think they’d go so far as to steal the pods. If he did, he likely would have just destroyed them rather than bother guarding them. He wasn’t a big believer in diplomacy or assimilation in the first place.
Did each tribe have their own Tree of Souls like they had their own Tree of Life?
I assumed so, but I don’t think it was explicitly stated. However, knowing how deep the backstory is in Cameron’s mind, the answer probably exists somewhere, even if it never made it to the screen.
4) Did ScarFace ever reveal how he got his scar?
Not in detail, just that he got it from “Pandora.” I figured it was from one of those big cat raptor things.
5) Was tall, doofy dreamwalker’s avatar killed?
You mean the dude from Bones? I think so. We see him at the very end, walking with the Navi but in human guise. So I figure he’s going to have to live out his days as the runt of the tribe. Unless they saved Ripley’s avatar, and manage to squeeze him into that.
Maybe someone else who’s seen the flick a hundred times can supply better answers than my newbie guesses…
After the avatar was shot, he more or less fell out of the interface couch, and seemed pretty shook up about a phantom wound in his chest. At best, the avatar only passed out and didn’t die, but that doesn’t seem likely.
I didn’t mean the literal dogs from Resident Evil, I meant the little dog-like things that attacked Jake and his future alien girlfriend saved him from.
Never saw Resident Evil – was Wayne Barlowe involved in its creature design?
Quaritch didn’t care; he thought the avatars were useless.
Presumably so. Certainly Tree of Souls spores/seeds were all over the place; there would have had to have been more than one of the things.
Nope. Doubtful it was caused by a Thanator, though – it’s claws were much bigger than those scars, and encounter with a Thanator was basically certain death. Maybe it was Viperwolves.
Norm’s avatar goes down in the jungle, retreating from the assault. He immediately wakes up in his pod, grabs a gun and mask, and goes out to rejoin the fight. He’s never seen as his avatar again. So… probably.
I think I should clarify even more about the doggy things. Was the giant creature who chased Jake into the woods and that his girlfriend rode during the climatic battle the mom of the little devil dogs that attacked Jake in the woods and joined the battle behind the hammerhead rhinos.
See, my problem is I don’t know the names of any of these things.
Thanator = giant thing that chased Jake over the waterfall, and which Neytiri rode. It’s a solitary hunter, probably the apex predator of the Pandoran jungle. And it’s huge.
Viperwolf = pack hunters/scavengers that attack Jake at night. Unrelated to the thanator. They’re hyena-sized, basically.
