Well… apparently, they need me to finish out the week!
“Oh, you don’t want me to work here anymore? OK! Wow, I don’t care about anythi-- Wha??”
“Ummm, we need you to stay at least a week or so longer because we need someone to replace you.”
“So, you expect me to actually ‘work’ during this week?”
It’s weird, I am in a kinda limbo. I don’t want to be here, “they” don’t want me here. Yet, here I am, sitting at this stupid desk and they’re paying me!
Well, I guess they can’t bitch if I am on SDMB! (not that they know that SDMB is the cause of my slack) so now it is a “post all day, do no work” kinda world!
[sub]I wish I was at home in my nice comfy chair, naked, surfin’ the SDMB and eating pumpkin pie… :D[/sub]
Of which world, I am the King. Hell, I’m so good at slacking off, they still think they WANT me here. I keep getting raises!!! I get PAID FOR DOPING!!! YAY!!! WHHHHHHEEEEEEE!!!
Count me in on the Grand alt-tab showdown. I got skills . . .
My work area is a carefully arranged shrine to Doping. My monitor is slightly oriented away from the door to my office…not conspicuously, however. The rest of the vista is blocked by the monitor to my rapidly-becoming-defunct-except-as-somewhere-to-put-my-post-it-notes Sparc Unix workstation. My fingers rest oh-so-subtly on the ALT-TAB keys, and I’ve undergone hours and hours of voluntary self-training in instantaneously clicking on the “show desktop” toolbar icon.
My “game” is so far advanced compared to you poor amateurs. See, you really have to have a multilateral approach to Doping. That’s what separates the elite from the dilettante.
Whenever I walk into someone’s office, and see them alt-tab, I know exactly what they’re up to.
This is much better:
Use the windows-M combination. (windows is beside the alt key on newer keyboards). This Minimizes all windows on the screen.
Important: Be obvious about it. Use both keys on the far RIGHT of the keyboard, not on the left where the Alt-Tab is. Don’t rush, or else they’ll know.
You see, everyone knows the Alt-Tab trick. So when you Windows-M, they think you’re just clearing your screen.
Oh, and you don’t have the problem of alt-tabbing to another IE session (lessie… I have 10 IE sessions open now, one file explorer, and my e-mail.)
Ah, I can only dream of that. Windows NT 4.0 doesn’t HAVE that button, dammit, and I want it!
On the other hand, I do have the task bar set to “disappear automatically”. I did that right after my boss peered over my shoulder, some two years ago. I ALT-Tabbed away quickly enough, but the task bar still said Shaving Pubic Hair. Thanks Louie, you goddamn bastard!
puk: I love my job, and I actually spend very little work time Doping, believe it or not. But it does happen, and a man needs to be prepared.
Just another push for the windows-m combo. It works in Win2000, but I dunno about NT. I think it does work. And it does the same thing as that little show desktop icon that Coldy is lacking.
I use it at work. I will frequently have 15-20 SDMB windows up, and then boss comes over…
Of course, they don’t mind me surfing the net. I’m a tech support person - when no one has a problem, I don’t have to work!
Please for the love of God tell me you’re a woman, because with the image I have of you standing immersed, drinking and “rubbing it all over your face”… well if you were man that would just be sooo wrong.
King? Hah. I’ll give you a plot of land somewhere in my kingdom, okay?
At my job, I kept getting raises and promotions not only for doping for hours at a time, but for playing Worms Armageddon, Bejeweled, and Grand Theft Auto 2 in between doping sessions.
As for alt-tabbing, I dub thee amateurs. The middle mouse button is my minimize. Don’t nobody notice that.
I am still at this DUMB job! I swear, if they thought my work was slack when it was just SDMB taking up my time…
Now they tell me they don’t need me here anymore, but could you work a few weeks longer? DUH! YOU NEED ME, but you don’t want me, so I can STILL do nothing and get paid AND look for a new Job! It’s Win Win WIN! Oh and the SDMB is STILL taking up 75% of my time! WIN!
I can get to it from work, but I have to forceably restrain myself. I’m a schoolteacher, see, and I worry what will happen if some admin gets curious and starts looking at my histories. What’s really in Caligula… gay porn actors… giving marijuana brownies to schoolchildren… that could be a problem with the school board, I can’t imagine why.
I’d say between 1.5 and 2 hours, if I restrict myself to reading my own forum alone. Obviously, I don’t.
I usually mod in the evening, and early night. I’m blessed to require so little sleep, I guess. And yeah, I do read the boards at work every now and then, but it’s becoming increasingly rare.
