Don't you people have lives??? (Heavy SDMB usage)

It always amazes me to see the number of total messages by some people on the board. Taking a quick and decidedly unscientific scan down a few threads, I see that many, many people seem to average around 1-3 messages per day for a period of several years. I say, remarkable testament to this board that people stay interested for so long.
BUT! I see no shortage of people who have sent upwards of 10,000 or even 15,000 messages in just a couple or few years!! I’ve seen members who are averaging well over 10 or 15 messages PER DAY, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR!
To these people, I ask: "Are you doing anything else besides eating, sleeping and SDMB’ing??? How old are you? Do you have a job? A significant other?
I could understand sending that many messages on occasion, but EVERY DAY??
I hope I’m not sounding antagonistic, because I’m not, I’m genuinely curious (and baffled) by what I’ll term “SDMB Junkies”.

I think you’re misunderstanding the statistic. “Posts” as listed under your username actually refers ot the number of times you’ve posted to the message board plus the number of times you’ve orally pleasured one of the moderators. Some people are known as “double-posters” and are thus highly sought after.

Ahhh, thanks for clarifying. Now, how do I become a moderator? Here’s big 43!!

Could be like me. I have a job where I get paid to sit in front a a computer all day. It isn’t a particularly challenging job and I am paid to sit here…reagrdless of what I am doing…I am pair to sit in front of this computer. Now of course if I were not discouraged from having any semblance of original thought, I might actually do something productive instead of wasting time all day long but alas that is not the spirit of corporate America. We must follow the status quo so…I sit five days a week and waste about 5 hours a day emailling jokes to my friends and posting on message boards while I earn my mortgage payment. Sick but true facts of the SDMB.

This post is count padding.

You should also consider that the average time it takes to post is 31.67 seconds. It’s true. I just read it. See? It’s says so just a couple of sentences back.

Ditto mipiace. A lot of us have jobs where we do a lot of sitting around and waiting for things to happen. In the old days, pre-internet, we’d stare out the window or try to stick pens in the ceiling. Thankfully, we can now spend that time productively, pissing off foreigners and reading about bad fart experiences.

Ditto mipiace.

Until June 18 I was content sitting in my swing reading (on average) a book a day, catching a few favorite teevie shows, doing the hour or two tribute to Morpheus (not that one – the old guy) and otherwise enjoying my retirement.

Hooked is how I would describe it over the days since. I just can’t seem to get up out of this chair for much more than head breaks (both kind),

I love it here!

Well, I have to write my final paper. So naturally, I spend my whole day on the SDMB waiting for an epiphany or two. Or somebody who will miraculously offer to write it for me. Or a genie in a bottle. Or Christina Aguilera. No, wait, that’s not quite right … maybe Christina Aguilera for the person who writes my paper for me. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I can understand those that work in professions where they’re at a computer all day, and they’re waiting on something; a college computer lab, for instance. However, what about those who don’t have that luxury? What about those employed for companies that block straightdope.com? Those that have followed up aren’t in the 5000 post or 1000 post clubs.

At the pace I’m posting now, I’d be in the 10,000 club in a couple of years. My post count has gone up quite a bit lately, because I was laid off. I’m looking for work, but in the meantime I’ve been spending a lot more time online.

Well, I don’t care what the explanation is, if you’re racking up around 1,000 posts per month you don’t have a life. If you claim you do, you’re in denial.

[Steve Martin] And the most amazing thing to me is…I get paid for doing this![/Steve Martin]

Ain’t life grand!

What kind of asshole does it take to sit around and dream up different stupid little catch-phrases for every damn post?

Does it bother anyone else that a nurse of all people has nothing to do at work…?

Are you doing anything else besides eating, sleeping and SDMB’ing???
Reading, sleeping and watching teevee, thanks.

**How old are you? **
46.

**Do you have a job? **
Godammit, yes. A job I hate so much and whuch makes me so suicidally depressed that I post on the SDMB every moment that I am not actually working.

A significant other?
Nope. Never have, never will.

bump

me, too

Eh, I don’t have much better to do. And 10 messages isn’t that hard to do. I read MPSIMS, IMHO, The Pit, GQ, and Cafe Society. That’s just 2 posts per forum, per day.

Bored at work - this post is shameless padding
