Awww, Lynx babies

My daughter, who is a biologist with the US Fish & Wildlife Service, sent me these shots of rescued Lynk kittens;

Here and here.

what cuties!!!

what happened to mama?

Great pictures! Such cute little fuzzers.

That first photograph depicts what must be the angriest bunch of kittens I’ve ever seen.

Let me join in the chorus of

*“Awwwwwwwwww” *

I hope they live. And what did happen to their mother?

Let me add my awwwwwwwwwwwwwww here. Some of the cutest babies I have ever seen !

Kittens with ATTITUDE. But still adorable. I wanna hold them and rub their fuzzy widdle heads and feed them from a bottle. Surely they’d love me if I have a bottle of milk?

Dear OG, look at the size of that paw on the closeup!

Someone should tell them that the fuzzy cuteness of a puddle of kittens overrides the fiercest hissing and growling.

Lynx are not housepets…lynx are not housepets…lynx are not housepets
I should be OK now

Is anyone else reading the title as ‘Linux babies’?

Squeeeeeeeeeeee!

I’m very experienced bottle raising kittens - do they need a foster mama? I’ll volunteer!!

Mama probably deceased, as kits were alone for a while before being rescued. They probably will be returned to the wild when ready.

Anybody who has ever owned an angry housecat will recongize that it would not be a good idea to have one of these guys as a pet.

As an antidote to all this terminal cuteness, here is a shot of something I encountered while hiking a while ago:

***** in the grass

To breastfeed?

Cute lynx kitten pics. Fabulous way to start the day. Thanks, KlondikeGeoff.

Any chance your daughter would start a “How I Became a Biologist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service” thread? Man, if I had it to do all over again, I’d sure like to go into that line of work.

She’s way too busy to spend time on anything as frivolous as the SDMB.

In a nutshell, after getting her Masters in Biology, she moved to SF and got a volunteer job working for them. She was good enough to get a recommendation when a job opened, and she actually is a Endangered Species Biologist. After Calif, she moved to Chicago with hubby and was fortunate to get a job there. Yeah, there are really a LOT of endangered species in urban areas.

Then, got a job in So. Calif, and finally one in Colorado, which she loves. I agree, it really is a rewarding occupation. She was lucky, but it helps to be good too.

Are these the kits over in the Silverton area where they think there’s been some poaching?

I live right in a lynx reintroduction zone, but I have yet to see 'em. My husband saw one on the cross-country ski trail two winters ago who was utterly unfazed, and quite interested in our 65 lb dog. He finally had to lob snowballs at it to get it off the trail. There’s always CDOW guys on snowmobiles and snowshoes out here in the winter tracking them. Last winter, my husband was headed up into the woods for a little backcountry snowshoeing, and the CDOW folks said “Did you know that’s a lynx trail?”, to which the only reply could be “My wife and I have been packing the trail down since October, but they’re welcome to use it.”

And from our local paper, letter to the editor on Friday:

While I doubt the ‘family’ characterization here, it’s still cool.

Me !

Still, the kittens are cute enough to make up for the confusion.

Awww cute baby kittums!!!

Anybody else looking at the pictures and thinking, “I will love him, hug him and squeeze him and name him ‘George.’”?

And they may not be house kitties but I bet they have the same weakness for scritchels that house kitties do.

Awwww, little puffs of EVIL.
