Awwww…. The Great One failed to deliver for his Chicago cronies

No, but most of your list is of positions that are if anything left wing, not right wing. A right winger would oppose most or all of that list except for the part about a strong military.

Wasn’t she in Gone With the Wind? :stuck_out_tongue:

As someone from Chicago, I’m glad we didn’t get it. IMO, Rio deserves it (and can have the headache and money troubles it brings). Is it a bit embarrassing? I suppose so–Oprah so rarely gets what she wants (perhaps she didn’t Wish It enough).

I don’t think Obama should have weighed in because I don’t see this as something a leader should involve themselves in (that’s why we have VPs), but I don’t see it as any huge failure on his part. I really don’t see it as a huge failure on Chicago’s part either. We weren’t prepared–a small group of people really wanted this, others were tepid and many were publicly vehement against it.

As a commuter, I must say I’m glad to be passed over. We had the World Cup a few years ago and Chicago couldn’t be bothered to even fix up Randolph St station (electric rail commuter line). It might have been more humiliating for the Olympics to come and have that kind of scrutiny. It’s still a beautiful city with world class cuisine, museums and culture. No harm, no foul.

In this incident (and all others involving Obama) I imagine the conservatives like those movie newspaper headline scenes when they don’t know the outcome beforehand. If Chicago GETS the Olympics they run with the “corruption brings Olympics to Chicago” spin and if Chicago DOESN’T get the Olympics they run with “The Great Obama Fails Big Time!” Or as in the OP, they do a version of both. At any rate, I can’t take conservatives seriously any more.

Also, I am glad that Rio got the games because there are many more countries than the US and we’ve had it a few times here. Let someone else get a chance.

Then I guess I’m not a right-winger; I agree with nearly every point. My main objection (if you even want to call it that) is abortion. I’m pro-choice but I’d leave it up to the states to decide.

Umm…that’s not “grin” all over your face, but it should come off with lots of hot water and a handful of baby wipes.

**Der Trhis **is an idiot, good luck obtaining an intellectually honest reply.
Now, FoieGrasIsEvil, I’ve got nothing against you personally, so I certainly don’t want to sully your own reputation by associating with, much less agreeing with, you. So my apologies up front. But just for the bemusement of the peanut gallery here, let’s see what you and I have in common…
I am no longer a Republican (since 2004) because the “Republicans” are no longer the “Republicans” that once were the representatives of idealogy that I (somewhat) supported.

I’ve been paying attention to, and participating in, local and national politics since the late 1980’s. I’ve never considered myself a “Republican”. I am not registered with the Republican party. I do find that I tend to agree more than not with the ideas and policies that they promote, but still find plenty of room to disagree.

You like to act like everyone that’s the least bit conservative kowtows to the neocons and their evil ilk. It just isn’t so. Nor do “we” all worship at the altar of Hannity, Limbaugh and O’Rielly.

Just like all Democrats don’t worship and serve Obama. There are some decent folk (Guinistasia, was that you?) who willingly speak up to identify the “mmm mmm mmm…” video and the “we serve” videos as creepy. Those of you who can, and do, correctly identify as such I do not, in my mind, lump into the broad category of worshipers, sycophants, servants, and whores. (Unlike, of course, Dio the C, 'luci, etc. etc. who clearly are.)

As for Hannity, Limbaugh, and O’Rielly… I can tolerate less than five minutes of them per day. Cumulatively, not individually. (And have you ever heard Mark Levin(?sp) on the radio?? I honestly, seriously, sincerely think that guy is nuts.) And before you ask… Glenn Beck is a doofus. An embarrasment. He is to conservatism what Westboro Baptist is to Christianity (yes, I consider myself a Christian too).

There are some people, like me, that want:

No!! Dude!! You too!! Me too!!

A fiscally responsible government that takes care of it’s citizens

Seconded.

A strong military

Double extra special seconded.

A diplomatic approach to foreign policy

Super duper extra special seconded (to wit… I think Bush did a piss poor job of relating to non-terrorist muslims. I was glad to see Obama make the overture, to extend the olive branch. I, personally, have nothing against muslims or Islam in general. I have the hatred of a thousand suns for cowardly shits who fly planes into my city).

SOME kind of immigration laws that are actually enforced, because we cannot sustain the alternative to no laws

Amen, brother.

Legalization of abortion, marijuana AND the death penalty (I know abortion is legal, I meant it needs to stay that way)

Right on, … … dude … huh?, and hell yes.

A relaxation or elimination of “The War On Drugs” as it currently sits, filling our prisons with pot dealers

Rockefeller drug laws are about as effective as prohibition. In my opinion.

An upholding of the Constitution without a bunch of “gotcha” signing staements

Can I get an “Amen!”

A real and soon end to the sorry war in Iraq

Except for the “sorry” part, I’m on board with that.

A ramping up and resolution plan for the war in Afghanistan

Ummm… yeah. Can we talk? Obama had a plan, didn’t he? Six months ago? (Four months ago?) And now… he doesn’t have a plan? Gonna take some weeks to think things through? Gotta finally talk to that there Genr’l that he’d ignored for for past few months like a voicemail message he just didn’t feel like returning? Yeah. While our men and women died? While Obama fiddled? Yeah. I would fucking love for Obama to get off his fucking ass and commit to a fucking plan for Afghanistan.

Government incentives that encourage technological development of viable alternative transportation options

“Incentives” yes, “punishment” no.

An emissions cap (without the trade, technology can handle it)

I will up front and honestly admit I do not have enough information to form a valid opinion on this one. So in the meantime… I will listen with a healthy dose of skepticism to anything any “side” has to say.

An invigorated approach to preserving our natural parks and resources

Hell yeah!! Lifetime member of the Izaak Walton League over here!!

So there are my views. In addition, I can’t stand Obama. I think he’s a lightweight and wholly unqualified for the office he’s been (unfortunately) elected to. To be fair, I think McCain was scary and possibly nuts, Palin was hella cute but I wouldn’t want her leading my Country, and Hilary… (sorry, couldn’t finish that thought, just vomited). I admired the strength of conviction displayed by Bush II, unfortunately I didn’t always agree with those convictions and thought he lead us in the wrong direction in some respects (as opposed to Obama, who solely reacts to poll numbers and doesn’t actually lead at all, he simply follows the polls). I admired Clinton’s giggity-giggity-ness, but he too was ultimately a lightweight. Bush I was a nice guy, but ineffective. And Reagan was… what, a demigod? Gotta admit, I don’t remember much about my very first girlfriend either except that she was cute.

I TOLD YOU TO STAY, BITCH!

Sit. Stay. Good boy.

I’m not quite sure what this means, but I’ll say it again (mainly because it makes me so happy): Obama, idiot that he is, blew about a million dollars in taxpayer money to personally fly over to Copenhagen and personally get involved in the hugely-important-to-the-nation issue  of holding the 2016 Olympics in his old crime-ridden stomping grounds. He put his personal and political cred on the line…and failed miserably. He thought the IOC members would fall all over themselves to be the first to award him a great victory. The U.S. didn’t even make the first cut! Obama said, “If you do, if we walk this path together, then I promise you this: The city of Chicago and the United States of America will make the world proud.” Ha ha ha! This just a few days after the world watched a young man beaten to death in the very community Obama supposedly “organized” years ago.

By the way, he and Michelle flew to Copenhagen on separate jets. Was it worth the carbon footprint and the million or so dollars for that little trip?

Not all liberals, no. Pathetically stupid Dopers, however, are lining up at his altar twelve deep to suck his dick and have the cum bronzed afterward.

[The Fourth Estate]

“Dance, puppet, dance!”

[/The Fourth Estate]

Names? :dubious:

Just to make sure, 'cause I haven’t searched, you’re making this same comment in every “Bush is eeeeeeeevil!!” and “Repubicans iz stoooooooopid!!” threads too. Right?

No no no, it´s Elizabeth, the same as you-know-who.
I for one I’m happy it won’t be in the USA for several reasons. Of course it’s a first for South America, and Brazil is perfectly capable of making a show second to noone, if not in scale or cost at least in a genuine festive and fraternal way. Another is that the USA is definitely not visitor friendly, visas and airport arrivals can be rather draconian, specially when compared to Brazil, thus the olympics will be open for more people that wouldn’t be bothered to jump through all the hoops needed to enter the USA. Lastly and sadly, an event like that would be particularly suceptible to terrorism, every half baked fanatical nut in the world will be spending every night from here untill 2016 thinking of a spectacular way of crashing the party.

ummm, I believe in all of this but I swing liberal these days. I used to be independent and voted Dem. or Repub. based on issues and “I just gotta a feeling”. I’ve found that the Repub’s have gone so far to the extreme lately that I can’t even begin to think about voting for any of them. I am sickened by the things that are being said by elected Republican representatives about Obama. Yeah, I can see the fringe saying that kind of bs and the nattering idjits of talk radio, but for the love of all that’s holy, elected House members. Really?

No, really, the fundie right called and insisted you return their absurd accusation. It isn’t yours. Give it back to them.

I’m torn. I’m planning to move to Chicago in a couple years, and I’ve been hoping for a long time that they’d win the Olympic bid so I could go see the games and rent out a spare bedroom at ridiculously inflated rates. But when I found out that South America has never hosted the games before, I was put on the fence. It’s about time they got the games, and I know a lot of Brazilians who I’m sure are very proud of their country. So I’m disappointed for myself and happy for Rio.

As for the screaming of the Conservative Insane, there’s so much of it these days that it’s started to blend together into a white background noise. Now it puts me to sleep.

If you say my name three times, I appear. And bring pie.

This statement alone illuminates your utterly stupid, narrow-minded approach to the world.

Tried to edit and missed the moment:

Edited to add: not so much on the death penalty. Viscerally, I’m for it in singularly extreme cases, but in reality I think it’s not applied in a very standard way and fiscally speaking, the appeals cost way more money than keeping folks in jail forever anyway. And if we keep folks in jail and later learn that they were wrongly convicted we can at least slightly ameliorate the situation. However, if they’re dead, they’re dead and there’s nothing we can do to rectify the mistake.

Giggity.
